Marantz CP/PMD-430 Record issue
Hi!
I wrote here some time ago avout my Marantz cp-430 that didn’t want to start up. It ended up being a loose connection and the transport had worked since it got fixed. But there seems like there’s some problem with the record function. When i use the Source monitor in playback mode or play+pause depressed I can hear the microphone or line input and it sounds good. But when depressing record+play+pause i initially hear some sounds but they fade away, kinda like them being filtered away but the V.U meters are corresponding to the sound. When releasing the pause button to record the sound vanishes completely, some fiddeling with the bias pot might bring some sound back but it’s very distorted. Monitoring from the tape results in no sound at all during recording and the V.U meters will not move. I used it a couple of days ago and it worked quite fine but during playback and recording, just a bit of hiss and noise. I’ve tried with two diffrent tapes but i suspect there being something with the record head or something related to it. Has anyone had this problem or knows what it might be? Kind regards, David |

The VU meters are driven from an earlier point in the line feed, whereas the output to the amplifier is switched.
Maybe clean the mechanical record/playback switch.
