Teac 3340s recording problem

I noticed something amiss on my Teac 3340s during calibration while trying to set bias. Instructions call for setting unit in record mode with a -8db tone at line in jacks, and turning bias capacitor screw clockwise until a decrease of .5db is noted. This worked on all channels but one. On the problem channel the voltage continues to rise until the capacitor screw is at maximum. The issue is that the channel in question won't record. Record light does come on, but nothing goes to tape. Previous content will erase. The channel works in playback.

As I have said time and before the manuals procedure is for the assembly line and not the field. Set record level at OVu after it is set for correct reading in the Monitor section then switch from, 400Hz to 10 KHz and make the levels even then test at 16 KHz and 20 KHz to get all inside of the allowed variance you are going for- I use plus or minus 2 dB.
The record light might just be an indicator out if the track is erasing. I would spray the Sync switches and record switches with Deoxit. These machines are now getting to the point that they need a Technician as some of the easy problems are trading in for more complicated ones.
I have one on the bench now. I never deal with the over bias method as that is an approximate way to set bias not the exact way.
