Rod, this seller in the US/Seattle WA area, might be a treasure trove of info for you or anyone wanting to keep up on PL gear, apparently the deck you have is not his father's or his friend Dean's forte but, they are asking for help from others with knowledge on working on them, I would send them a question and ask to stay in touch with them. It seems a future website is in the works for PL stuff. Hope this helps!

Hi Guys,
Just a warning on this deck. I was the original buyer mentioned in the posting. This deck is suitable as a spare parts only unit as the feed side pinch roller is missing. A US ebay auction has the following notes on this deck
7000 II Cassette Deck

1. The reel motor lever full assy. (idler pulley) gets very sticky with age and lack of use. The worst thing an owner can do is let the deck sit unused for years. Until a few years ago I was able to get the pulley working by completely disassembling it and oiling it with teflon oil. Recently this remedy has failed to get them working. New pulleys are not available.

Test the transport by playing a cassette and watch for spilling tape. If so, the deck is beyond repair. This failure is not due to a worn capstan belt.
(NOTE this is the case with the deck)

2. The Microscan PCB is a double sided board with dozens of feed-throughs connecting the front and back side of the board. The solder has deteriorated to the point where numerous feed-throughs are failing. Troubleshooting and repairing them is very time consuming. Further problems can develop after repair.

Test the Microscan circuit. If it's not working the deck is probably beyond repair.

There are NO NEW MECHANICAL PARTS AVAILABLE for the 7000II except for the belts. See Belt Bulletin.

Yeah, Fancy describing it as possibly junk and then putting a BIN price of $500.00 WTF!!!. Why can't these sellers list honestly and say these machines are suitable for parts only? why waste everybody's time? At least the Aussie auction now states the problems with the deck rather than the original description which stated "checked by our technician" (what...he did not notice the pinch roller was missing?) and it is a no reserve auction starting at a dollar.

Jeap, purchasing any of those two decks listed is a real “Risky business”..
The most tricky stuff is probably Microscan, the deck has no manual calibration, if this really doesn’t work you might even be without recording function. And yes, Microscan board ( green PCB on the side ) and actually the entire electronic boards inside looks nightmare to repare.
Anyway, regarding mechanics, I would not agree that this deck can be ever beyond repair mechanically, if all the parts are still there. Idler assembly that looks to be major trouble here is certainly repairable, but not something for amateurs.. I can understand if someone wont deal with the repair of this deck. It’s not a job for someone that would count hours.
I got mine practically mint, all the function, including Microscan fully functional, all it needed was cleaning and lubing idler assembly. Still, that required major deck disassembly and a lot of work.
It does resembles mechanics of the CTF1250, but it is not the same.

Right, it’s a PCB/Cable salad bar.
Disassembled mine, I wondered how on Earth the guys at Pioneer put it together.
Once assembled, you don’t even have a access to half of adjustments..
I guess they just somehow assembled it, test it, if it didn’t work; O.K., let’s just trash this one, next one might turn out to be OK…

Seller did the right thing and fully refunded the purchase price including freight. The unit is back on Ebay 130278707983 currently sitting at AUD $38.50 with a bit over a day to go. This would be a good parts deck at less than $50.00 or a good fixer if you have the feed side roller tape guide pinch wheel assembly. Freight worldwide would be very expensive. (over 20kg)

Would probably still make sense if you already have god one and keep this one for spare parts.
But not if you additionally pay fortune for shipping.
And, probably a big disappointment for someone that just wish to use it..

Yeah Davorin, spot on. I tried to use it but it just bunched the tape up. It would not play and I don't expect it ever will properly with the feed side pinch roller assembly missing.

Yeap, double capstan deck are generally totally clueless without the feed one working.
And, considering how rear this is, along with the fact that the parts are not exchangeable with something like CTF 1250, someone might end up clueless as well..
