Reelspin TEAC A-7300 Reel To Reel DECK

I am rather proud of this deck I have owned it from the early '80s and am the original owner. It has been in the shop only twice in its history. I love this deck and it performs beautifully. It is a Direct Drive Deck. The capstans are driven by Direct Drive Motors. It is a heavy honey. The trouble is I've heard of NO ONE ELSE owning this deck or even seeing it around. WHY????I am perplexed and lonely knowing that I am the only one in the world that is the owner of this superlative model of Teac's Great Days. If someone out there owns this deck....someone in the lonely night let me know. Even if someone out there in the abyss of the internet knows someone that knows someone that owns this deck please let me know.I am lonely!!!!

Actually it is more common than you think! There are usually always a couple of them on Ebay. Well-built unit. Offered in both 4t and 2t versions - the 2t version operated at 7.5 and 15 v. 3.75 and 7.5 on the 4t one.

Also, Teac built basically the same unit and it was distributed as the Ampex ATR-700.

Thank You I didn't know that about the Ampex. I wander around ebay but I have never seen the A-7300 but I will look for it now! I always see other Teac Decks but not mine,a lotof 4 and 6000 series but I never see mine. I feel better now!

Hello Jazzguy,

Do not feel alone in this deck as I have seen them here and there. I don't think they were made in as big a number as the A2300 decks but there are a pile of them out there. One thing about some decks is that no one knows about them because no one has complaints about them. I have worked on at least 6 of them in my home shop and many more when at Teac. Before the Tascam 42B, I would say that this machine would be the best 1/2 track unit they had. You can not beat direct drive motors. I have an Ampex ATR-700 to my left a few feet Maybe you other picture is too large for the system to handle- you might have to resize it. I use a program called Thumbs plus to do resizing.
Finding a 1/2" two track ATR60-2 is a much harder trick than the A-7300 or A7300-2T but someone here did find one.

Thank YOU! Working for Teac must have been very interesting work,The Ampex looked a lot like my A-7300 except for the buttons. Do you do work on Tandberg Cassette Decks as I am expecting on being mailed to me from Canada that I won in eBay. It was checked in Canada but one never knows and I expect things to arise in the future. My local tech who is very good and reasonable won't repair them as the parts problem makes it difficult for him.The Deck is the 3014.Thanks again for answering and the great pictures!

Hi,

I own one of these decks.......... At the moment it has a wow and flutter issue that I have not had time to look into. It's a beast of a machine!

For the Tandberg unit you should contact jdurbin1

The motors in the A7300 or ATR700 do not have a wow and flutter problem unless they are not lubricated.

Thank's for that info on the motors..... I'll check that first thing, an easy fix would be nice for a change!

Reelspin Incredible It Died!

I'll take it to my Tech in Melbourne,Florida on Monday. He Does good work but may have to order parts from somewhere.I hope the parts are available. The counter doesn't work but that must be a belt. But the deck slows down so that every thing sounds awful. It must be the motor.

Info

I have a Teac A7300 I purchased in 1977. It has never been repaired/serviced. I clean and demagnetize the heads as required. I also purchased at the same time a Marantz 2325 receiver and a Technics SL-1400MK2 turntable. The Marantz has a light out which I live with and the Technics all of a sudden won't power on and is going in for repair. The A7300 is a great tape deck.
