Reelstop Sony TC-640

Hi all

I can pick a working one up for $50, is it worth it. It will cost me about 75 or 80 in gas.

I very recently serviced one of those. I ended up giving the deck back to the customer at no charge and told him to look elsewhere for a better deck. There are plenty out there (better decks).

So, no.

I have both the TC-640 and the TC-640A. The TC-640A has a locked pause button and the Sony F&F that will never wear out. In my opinion these are troublefree decks and very easy to maintain so I really wonder what problems Tapetech had with the TC-640 he was working on. The TC-640 I have was giving smoke signals which appeared to come from a blown power resistor in the power supply. Usually also spark killer are parts that tend to blow up in Sony decks.
I also have the TC-645. Mechanically I prefer the TC-640/A.
A total of $ 125.00 to $ 130.00 including gas seems to be a bit too much if you ask me....
