Please see the pic below, sorry it's sideways.

Is the tape threaded correctly?

I've tried it with the tape threaded above the guide thats right next to the pinch roller (as opposed to below the guide as you see it now) and in reverse play, after awhile the tape slowly slides off the roller and slides toward the front of the deck.
I was hoping maybe I just had it threaded incorrectly.

The tape is threaded incorrectly! The tape should pass ABOVE that pinch roller guide! When the transport is in the "STOP" position (which it is in your photo), the tape should pass OVER the top of the pinch roller rubber and under the exiting tape guide and under the tension roller, passing under (anti-clockwise) the locking tension arm guide and then onto the take up reel!

Also, make sure that you keep the capstan shafts free of oxide/residue at all times - this can induce tape skewing even when you have it threaded correctly!

Hi There,

Exactly as 'Bandwith' has described is the correct way to load tape on the RT-909, You will find it a lot less fiddly as well

Yes it's definitely less fiddly. I just wish it didn't work with the incorrect threading LOL. Then I wouldn't be tempted to leave it that way.
