Sick to my stomach: Alpine AL-85 for 85 euros

Sometimes you just wanna eat your shoes: on a Dutch site a seller is selling an Alpine AL-85 with a belt issue, asking 30 euros for it (not 85 as the typo in the title says, current bid is 55). Pick up only, but too far away for me and I am no longer in possession of a car.

God, what a gorgeous deck is that beauty! It even has external pots for rec eq! I would almost trade my GF for it ;-)

It's a better deal than an AL-300 for 300€, or an Eumig FL-900 for 900€
But the AL-85/90 (and the Luxman K-04/05) has usually stuck vu meter needles, it's a pain to fix.

Current bid is 190 euros. Still cheap I think. Just found out it has a Sankyo DD transport, I think I'm gonna keep watching this one to see how the price develops.

I just saw the seller reached an agreement with a buyer. Current bid is 300 euros, but I wouldn't be surprised I he received an even higher bid through e-mail or something. I mean, why would he settle for 300 if bidding is still taking place?

I see one going for $4,500 on ebay. What's the deal with this deck? Is it better than a TOTL Nak?

It's a nice deck. I have owned both it and its' big brother the AL-90. They are pretty much the same as the Luxman K-04 (AL-85) and K-05 (AL-90). I prefer the Luxman styling and the Luxman decks seem to be a bit more substantial. IMHO the Alpines are definitely not worth $4,500.00!

I have the Luxman K-03 and its a deck I'm keeping. It holds its own against my Tandberg 3014A deck. Sound is very good, as is its recording capabilities.

The details are different, but the foundation is the same. To me this is pretty obvious. I myself see the Sankyo transport as a foundation for manufacturers to build on. Perhaps Alpine had it customized, or perhaps even got a license of some sort from Sankyo to produce it. Or, perhaps, Alpine designed the whole thing in the first place and then provide a license to Sankyo? Who knows.

BTW, the o-ring on the idler wheel, is that supposed to be original, or did you get it from the hardware store?

What "Alpine" branded decks make so special is the know how of Alpine in cassette technology, and that they stop to built own branded decks and intense their OEM business to the max !

Its complete different in construction ?

If this is identical all tapedecks are made by Phillips.....

Sorry, but this is too silly for words... I'm not going to discuss this any further.
