Masterwork Decoder SQ41

A guy I know emails about gear he comes across. Some of it to sell. Sometimes he just has questions.

He asked today about a Masterwork SQ41 decoding unit. I can find nothing on these things. Masterworks is a production label, if I recall. Had no idea they dd hardware, but it could be them. Anyone know what this is?

I suspect it is simply an decoding box but there is something about that name tickling the back of my brain. He did not have a pic of the thing.
Thanks!
Dave

He's sending to me along with a reel deck for cost of postage. Will post a pic when I get it.

Masterworks was owned by CBS and had the SQ 4 channel matrix format.
They produced the SQ- 40/41 outboard decoder the help the SQ record sales.
Sansui did the same thing with their QS matrix format

In order to help sales of SQ they sold a couple receivers and outboard decoder.
Sansui did about the same thing with QS

As it happens there was room in the shipping box for the Masterworks SQ decoder. Sending that along too and I will have in a few days. Plan to post a few pics of it once I get it simply because there is so little to be found about it out there.

Assumed it was an SQ decoder. knew nothing about the manufacturer. Thanks for the feedback, Knasty.
