Reelspin AKAI GX-747-DBX Only records on Right channel, not on left.

Please help!!!

My Akai GX-747-DBX will only record on the Right channel, nothing on the left.

While taping, and monitoring the source, both vU meters indicate signal. However, when playing back, only the right VU meter indicates signal. Left ( nothing ).

What are the most likely cuases of this issue. And what steps can I take to troublshoot this issue further. And or confirm, the problems origin.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention.

Go Vols!!!

First clean the record heads and all other parts of the tape path. Post a good close photo of heads if you are not sure about it. Sometimes you need to use acetone to get all old oxide off the head.

If 100% sure the heads are clean, then clean the two switches on the bottom board: SW1 and 7. Clean all other pots and switches while you are in there. Use Deoxit D5 spray.

If channel still out, then a bad record mute relay. RL1 on the bottom board.
