Otari MX-5050 BII 2

Hello;

I can pick up one of these Otari's for $300.00. That seems low to me considering. I have a Pioneer rt-1020H for 15 ips already, but if this is in as good of working condition as he says, is it worth the price? I will probably visit it this weekend - what would I check on this other than the obvious (functions,head, etc).

A Otari MX-5050 BII 2 in good working order for $300 is a "go to the ATM right now" kind of deal.

I will pick it up then. If it cleans up well, it could be a fine replacement for my pioneer RT-1020H, but I cannot see how it can beat it. My ears really like the pioneer. I am repairing a RT-707 too.

You may need to get xlr cables, and perhaps an external device to boost the input as well, for another approximate $100.

Hey Greg, im actually selling my rt2022 this week and the thing is amazing, i do like the sound, but compared to the ease of working on a Otari, thats where it wins the race. On top of direct drive which is also a gamechanger. As long as the heads are not grinded down like an old pair of shoes then its worth it at that price. As far as the ear thing, i get it. There is a different feel, maybe more detail in the pioneer, probably from a higher top end, and looks wise the Pioneer probably keeps the wife happiest on the cabinet, so i can see your deliemma, the main thing is to buy more. Im selling this rt2022 to help fund an Otari mtr10 and mx55. Its more about finding and learning about something new for me lately.
Anyways good luck,
