Denon DTR 2000

Any thoughts on the above? I have seen one for a good price and tempted,
Plus it will look good on top of my drs810 cassette deck.

Should I go for it or not?

I only have experience with my DAT machines (Sony and Fostex).... But I like the format....

Apparently this is a good model...

Those that enter into DAT at this late time will fill tapes with their material and at some point the machine will wear out and there are no new parts that can be put into that unit. You are creating a scene for a disaster- buy an Open Reel as at least you will be able to get new tapes and most good machines can be fixed even today. I know because I have to do them.

The DTR-2000 is based on the Technics/Panasonic transport which is not very reliable in my opinion.

130.00 too late it's done!!

I have had 3 of their cassette decks, two 810s and a 610 and found them to be very reliable, suppose the mech is light years away in the dat compared to cassette.

It has to come from America so hope to have a play in a few weeks.

I did,I did !!

Can parts really be that hard to find Sam?
I suppose DAT is far more complex than open reel and made for a shorter time.

If I get a few years out of it I'll be happy, for some strange reason I tell myself the more gear I amass it will keep its use down and make it last better, but then I'm sure there's quite a few people round here with that mindset aren't there Shaun?😉

I don't think I mentioned numbers Shaun but let's just say I could be changing my user name to 25 decks if I buy another one!!

How do you like the 810? I have access to one really cheap with about 10hrs of use. I know it has Dolby S but no headphone output volume control.

The DRS-810 does not feature the Dolby S (only B and C) but there is output volume control.

Correct, no dolby S.

I have one at home and one in my office.

It's a decent enough sounding deck.

Go for it if it's low hours but be prepared to keep taking the cover off to clean heads etc.

Plus point for me is really neatly segmented VUs make it a pleasure to record with.

It makes clean recordings, reliable. It's nothing special special soundwise. What you put in you get out. It has a higher bit depth and sampling option if not mistaken. My uncle has one from 1997 if correct.. The sony 60e and technics svda10 are more value if you ask me. Its something with the 1bit machines, they rock. And the 60e does something funky called super bit mapping which is very convincing. Especially to capture those vinyl details and depth.
