Mariah Carey!

I remember when it would be scandalous for someone to go out and pretend to sing. Now it is accepted, sort of like wrestling where pretending is the norm.
Ironically, she blamed the producers for Sabataging her "performance", which
is a non performance , pretending to sing!
She could've tried, but maybe her voice is fried and she wants to only use tapes.
As a side note, I fondly remember when I saw Queen a few days before xmas back in '77 and he did maybe a onetime performance of "White Christmas", without tapes - imagine that!
Bring back the music!

Most singers under such circumstances (no rehearsal, 40 degrees, wind) will want to have their vocal on the track and sing along with it. Carey planned to sing but her ear monitors were not working. So how can she sing if she can't hear the music? Keeping her mouth shut was the best option at that point. Although if her story is accurate, and she complained TWICE before they went live, she should have stayed off stage and made them fix it.

You can't say "most ".
There was a rehearsal; she didn't attend it. She made no attempt to sing. When
she said there was nothing she could do, uh, yes there was-she could have actually sang!

Smile

If you saw what she was wearing, it's no wonder she was cold!

So she couldn't sing because it was 40 degrees and she was cold, wearing a bedazzled one piece swim suit?
Ok, I'll go with that. But, who thinks people, rather than want to hear a purported singer
sing, would prefer to see an obese middle age woman, prance about a stage in a swim suit?

She's not exactly what I would call 'Obese', but hey different strokes for different folks. i prefer women with meat on their bones, as opposed to those out there who look as if they attended a WWII German Concentration camp instead of a weight loss clinic, which makes them all look sickeningly thin and unhealthy.

She is obese- obese is a medical term to describe an unhealthy weight that is 20% above ideal. It doesn't matter whether you "like a little meat on the bones",
from a medical point, it's unhealthy.

Yes I am aware the medical community is big on 'shaming' patients into weight loss (a multi-billion dollar enterprise for big Pharma alone) placing an embarrassing stigma on over weight patients.

I agree that overweight people, especially women with a 'FUPA' should dress in less revealing attire in public, especially on display via global internet and TV. Not a great choice on her part but if she's comfortable dressing that way, more power to her and who am I to say different. If I were offended by it , I'd simply change the channel.

I hear the 'O' word every so often at a Doctors office, I'm 5-10 - 250 pounds solid, strong as and built like an OX. I don't consider myself Obese, but the statistics do. Whatever.. hey I've been called worse, and compared to some of the kids under 18 today that are 5 foot nothing and 250 or way more, I consider that a more accurate example of the term Obese (under the medical community's established guidelines) than myself at 5-10 250#. But hey what do I know? I know I'm perfectly happy as I am, and like women who don't look like they live in a starving third world nation.

But I digress...Mariah Carey/others close to her are trying to say the Islamic State is responsible and taking credit for her musical Faux-Pas and it was all a conspiracy to ruin her performance and New Years Eve celebration..the fact that she has Junk In the Trunk is incidental and non-sequitur at best. Compared to what happened in Istanbul, Turkey on New Years Eve, her performance, or lack there-of is nothing but a Tempest in a Tea Pot

People still pay big money to go see her sing and shake it. I'm not one of those people and never have been. I always did like her early stuff, the Self titled LP with Vision Of Love, and a few other early offerings which I thought were quite good , standing the test of time in musicianship and performance overall. Never liked her enough to see her live though.

Whatever else, it's just not that big a deal.
