Teac A-550RX cassette deck spooling backwards

Hi all, I need your kind help

I got this deck for free, I replaced only one belt which was the one for the capstan, bought from here.

The deck fast forward and rewinds just fine but when I hit play the right reel spins counter clockwise causing a mess since the tape spools from the inside instead of the outside.

I made a video, hopefully this help explain better my problem.

It gave me a headache, can't see what is wrong with the unit. Everything works great and it's also very quiet man.

I dont think so Libra. That deck is single capstan. If what your saying is true, in play mode the left capstan would not rotate.

Ok, if the capstan belt is mounted correctly,
the problem, is an a reel assy.
It's need to remove the cassette lid, and checked the idler
assy in playback. I think the problem is here.

The problem was the best sent which was too long and only fits tight if it's routed above the tensioner, I took an old belt and cut it splicing it shorter and run it under the tensioner and now the deck spools correctly. The only challenge I have now is the motor which doesn't hold speed correctly and there are too much wow and flutter.

Edit: I emailed the eBay seller of the belt and advised the belt is the wrong one. This is a link for the eBay listing.

Correct path

Yes, that is the correct path, it goes under the pulley/tensioner.

You need to find the proper Capstan Belt.
Not much tight or loose.

The best belt will come from Marrs, though due to their flooding and destruction, it may take some time to get a belt.

You MUST have the correct belt. The 550RX is an excellent unit, and will give very good performance. Don't honk it up with a junk belt.

Sam (Skywave) might also have a recommendation, here.

The service manual shows the correct thread of the belt. I suspect there is a reel table drive belt threaded the wrong way. This would reverse the play reel drive. It could also be that grease is hardened and the reel drive part is stuck in the wrong position but the belt is the most likely cause. I have never had that happen except in a Tascam 302 that had a different Chinese made transport that they sell you.
