Are Otari MX 5050 & 5050 bii interchangeable?

How much are the first MX 5050 decks interchangeable with a Bii HD? I've been offered one for free, but I have to pay shipping. My 5050 Bii is working, but I have some issues with mute transistors and a relay along with the circuit board. Plus a few missing screws and rear feet. It's nice to have a parts deck, but if parts are not interchangeable...no need to pay the hefty shipping!

I know many of the HD parts can be found in the BII-2. The counter and control board are the most obvious differences in my memory. I would look for a manual for the original MX5050 to see if you can compare it to the HD.

From what I have seen the first 5050 machines are an entirely different animal to the BII. It amazes me that these carry the same model number. The BII and the BIII are relatively similar. But the original isn't even direct drive from what I understand.

Not much of anything is compatible with the later 5050's. Keep your money.

You could use the heads if they are in good shape.
