Spin Pioneer RT707

Picked up an almost perfect Pioneer RT-707 today. Unit had been owned by a Los Angeles session musician. I just finished recording Rumer: Seasons Of My Soul as a test run. Pristine clarity blowing me away. I am a very happy man. The item had been listed on EBay for pickup only, I was an hour away so I could not pass up the opportunity to check it out. Paid $200

Someone posted a curb alert on Craigslist for one of these a few years ago, on the other side of PA......it was very hard not to go grab it. Nice score.

$200 is an amazing price for a decent one of these decks! I love mine.... in the UK your cannot get a dirty broken RT-707 for that sort of cash

Good find indeed

Everybody needs to have a 707/701 in the house.
They are a great daily deck.
Enjoy.

The RT707 is a great machine but we need someone to make the Pinch roller covers. These of all things should be doable by a 3D printer.

Reelspin

I am like a kid in a candy store with this deck, currently copying The Concert In The Park, Simon And Garfunkle vinyl to the deck...

Sam - Perhaps this fellow might be able to make what you need since he already has done so for the RT-909:

In the market for a reel to reel. Never had one and want to get only one if I can which is serviced. Is this deck up there with the likes of Revox A77 or Teac A3300S?

I you are only looking for a serviced unit, I would think any name brand unit will perform well, but the price will be high. As in >$1000

The 707 only takes 7 reels. It is not equal to the Revox or Teac you mentioned

The 707 is still the best looking 7" readily available machine out there. The only 7" machine that is maybe better looking and sounds better in my opinion is the Technics RS-777 (The7). It's super rare but it's simply gorgeous.

I bought my Pioneer RT 701 (the little brother to the 707) for $50 dollars at a local antique shop about 4 years ago. I couldn't get my money out fast enough. The older gentleman running the shop said "Let me call my son as he owns the deck". Over the phone the son said "How does $50 sound"? I said sold! It even came in the original box and had been purchased here in my home town. All I did was polish and clean the case and face plate, heads, and cleaned all the switches. It fired right up and makes awesome tapes! Someday I probably should have it recapped, etc. I have a set of new Teac Cobalt heads for it should the original heads need replaced. There's only small grooves in the play and record head so lots of life left. Great machines!

I paid too much for a totally filthy one because it was local and working....of course, after I pay a technician to bring it back to speck....I'll have probably paid double what it is worth.....but it's a looker for sure. Congrats on your purchase.
