Default Akai CR-83D (8-Track)

Just finished cleaning up the 8-track deck I picked up from Doity. All nice and clean inside and got the goo main belt all cleaned up. Dental style picks, tweezers, razor blade, q-tips (this may be scary but I use carb cleaner on the Q-tip to clean the goo up). New belt set to be ordered. Can't wait to get it up and running. I like the dial tape length indicator and think it will be interesting to see in action.

Good looking deck now. From the small pic I thought a knob was missing but then saw it was that nifty time elapsed dial.

Tape length indicator, very interesting draftingmonkey. I have never seen a player with one, its set up just like the ones in cassettes and reel to reels, a separate little belt to operate it, when you ordered the belts did you actually find a kit or just order a flat belt and a small counter belt? That really is a nice looking player. That black belt goo can be PITA to clean up when it is all over the wires and cogs. I always just used alcohol, but carb cleaner would be good too, drys clean with no residue. I may try on my next find to see if its easier and quicker.

That's a very sweet and unusual deck! I really dig the little Technics intergrated amp in your album too!

Larry - Haven't ordered the belts yet. I may contact Marrs Communications to see what they got (hear good things about them). Otherwise Vintage Electronics has a belt kit listed.

Stuwee - Just picked up the Technics integrated amp. Didn't really mean too but as I had the matching tuner it seemed like a good idea. Came with the OM so I have OM's for both. If you looked at the picks in the album, it came out of a smokers house and was pretty nasty, but cleaned up nicely.

Hey DM!! Nice Akai you got there,I been meaning to find one of those models,I have the earlier models, even found one with GX heads, but it has issues.Be sure to follow the linkage from the record lever and spray some Deoxit on the big slide switch you'll find at the other end at the circuit board. Thanks Rob, will be sure to. Ordered my belts from Marrs Communications and am waiting anxiously for them to arrive.
