Default Internal Pitch adjust on a HK DC3500?

Hi All,

New here to tape heads...just got back into cassettes full force...using a Sony K-555 while I await a newly acquired NAK CR1A

Just for kicks I picked up a HK DC3500 for $15 at a swap meet.....the thing sounds really nice and everything functions well...but the pitch is just a tad slow...I tried to get the tech specs from HK and they were helpful...but only sent me the date sheets for alignment etc...nothing on pitch adjustment....I took a peek inside and it looks like there are adjustments access points on each DC servo motor...but I couldn't seems to get any feel on a set screw etc...can anyone give me the lowdown on how I can adjust the pitch on this deck?....just can't live with it playing slow...is there some kind of master voltage adjustment pot on the board that feeds the motors??

Thanks for any and all help.
Cheers!

Kind of curious how you expect a BOTL Nak 2-header to be anywhere near the same class as that Sony 3-head deck. The Nak shouldn't be allowed in the same room unless it tips the maitre d' well....

Usually you're correct, on the back of the motor is a speed control pot inside. You'd be best using a 3kHz speed reference tape to set the speed. HK PCB's were usually pretty well printed so if the adjustment is on the PCB or the motor control PCB then it should be printed.

I've had a CR-1 and have a CR-2. Wish I had a Sony now so I can.... (biting tongue now out of some respect ).

BTW... Welcome to TH Fargenamps! Please offer your unbiased opinion when you get your CR-1.

Thanks for the help!...I must back up..(good one by the way!)...I listed the NAK wrong (please excuse my novice nature and going off memory as this is my first NAK purchase:>)...I have CR-3A on the way in hopes of one upping the Sony...which should be very hard as the Sony has great sound...

back to the issue...anywhere around here a newbie cassette guy can get the info on how to properly use 3kHz speed reference tape to set the speed? The world of cassette deck maintenance is new to me. Also...the back of the DC servo's had a rubber dust cover deal and I really couldn't even see what size it was and if it was a micro Philips head...

Cheers!
Benjamin
