I've noticed that too! There was also a chap on UK ebay selling nothing but Signalex CDs/DVDs/VHS blanks and accessories recently for £4.99 each despite the fact that Signalex is made exclusively for Poundland!

I hope no-one fell for it.

Besides the tapes mentioned here by fellow Brits, Maxell UR 60 and UR 120 plus TDK Life On Record FE 60, D 120 and SA 60 are still officially available in GB/NI but I don't ever recall seeing FE 60 anywhere in a British shop. They seem to be more a continental Europe model.

Regards,

Damon.

It may be seem a bit strange but here there aren't any new/current tapes into the shops.
Apart the few scores with old NOS tapes i just bought, the only other sources of current stuff are internet orders or ebay... But i must admit i prefer what i just found here.

Ditto for here.

I have only seen the "Made in Thailand" Sony HF here. I bought some TDK SA in a border-shop in Germany recently (2010)

Though most retailers here carry UR's, HF's, and TDK D's, I've found that the dollar stores can get pretty well anything.

I once scored 29 Sony UX Pros (final version) for $29! The time before that, they had a dozen Maxell XLII-S 60's!!

I think Dollar General stores still carry Imation made TDK D tapes. The Roses department store in Charlottesville has Maxell UR 60 and 90 minute tapes and the nearby Radio Shack has Maxell UR 120 tapes. I think that is about it. About when tapes were on their way out (this was about five years ago) the IGA in Bridgewater, VA had Maxell XL-IIS, TDK SA-X and MA tapes, all in 60 minute length. I don't remember how much they were asking, but I really should of grabbed some.

I've found the best dollar stores to check out are the independents, not any of the larger chains.

I don't know who their supplier is, but it must be some wholesaler that cleaned out old shops back in the day.

Interesting... Thanks for the tip.

I know that kmart has HF around here. The shells are of lower quality, but the tape makes a pretty good recording. I've seen UR in CVS and at one of the local supermarkets.

I used to get most of my blanks form thrifts, but it's been getting harder lately. I've started to snipe on ebay more often. I have my set limits on what I'm willing to pay per each type of tape. Sometimes you have to wait, but it usually works out.

In the UK WHSmith stocks Maxell UR90 5 packs and Argos stock the same but in 10 packs, but Wilkinsons is much cheaper than both of them.

Here it’s Maxell UR 90’s at the drugstore’s and I think Radio Shack, and Sony HF’s at Wal-Mart. I haven’t seen any TDK D’s in a while now.

In my area nothing is available in the stores, last time i asked the sellers about tapes they laughed at me , just on-line shops use to sell some HF's from Sony and UR's from Maxell, and that's all.

Maxell UR90 5 packs in many locations, Wallgreens, CVS, etc... Some, not all, Dollar Stores still have the TDK D90s. There was one record store in town still selling Maxell XLII90 five packs and pairs of XLII60s until recently. Bought a few of each a couple months back and was driving by over the weekend and figured I may as well grab the rest since type IIs seem to be a dying breed but they are now all out. Shame, but at least I got a decent stock of those before they disappeared.

I wouldn't know any store who stills sells them in The Netherlands.
You can order Maxell UR 90 and UR 120 online, that's the only possibility I know of.

Oh I just found Sony HF 60 and HF 90 in a webshop.

In the U.S., I've come to the realization that I'll be buying tapes from NAC from now on. I've still got 50+ blanks from that order a few years back!

In my local areas, I have seen:
  • Maxell UR in most Walgreens, some Targets, some FYEs, and one Best Buy.
  • Maxell XLII usually at FYE.
  • Sony HF at Wal-Mart.
  • Fuji DRI at a local Sweetbay (supermarket), they had a clearance on them.
Pretty much what other people are posting.

As we know, audio tapes don't sell anymore, so a lot of these placed have clearances on these items. Wal-Mart and Walgreens seem to be the only places that would carry them at most stores. Even so, it seems like Walgreens is starting to phase cassettes out entirely.
