Is there a site where I can get a picture that shows the various parts of a turn table.

What I really what to know is when the tone arm swings out to the record what is the function of the spindle with the nut on it that raises the tone arm off the record manually. Should there be any weight on that when a record is playing ? Does it need adjusted so the tone arm doesn't bear down on the record too much?

Thanks

If you're speaking of the cueing mechanism, no, it should not contact the tonearm at all while the record is in play. To do so would introduce drag and tracking error. It should recede below the level of the tonearm when cued into the down/PLAY position. Most decenbt turntables had a height adjustment capability on the cueing mechanism.

Thanks Scorpion8 I saw that somewhere, can't remember where. What you said makes sense though. If its floating it would skip and not set in the groove right. There is a height adjustment.

What turntable model are we talking about here?

Its a small JC Penny one I picked up last week at a yard sale. I put a picture of it in my albums, the one called Strickly Turntables. The tone arm appeared to be resting on the cue post, so I adjusted the nut down and it sounded a lot better after doing so. Do not remember the model number is.
