Recently bought it for $20, non-working condition. this evening just opened the lid where the motor and belt for moving the arm are and just nudged the gear pulley which is coupled with the DC motor through a worm and it started working just fine. It can sense the start/end of the tracks for up to 9 tracks which it does just fine on all records I tried. Ordered a new stylus. Unlike the linear tracking tables of Technics it is with a MM cartridge which can be replaced with P-mount cartridge but there is one catch. The catch is that on the Hitachi cartridge it is mounted photodiode/phototransistor couple which senses the track end/start for LP with non-standard gaps between the tracks. So replacing the original cartridge means loosing this fine gap resolution feature. Anyways, it is a nice turntable, I like it.

And there I was thinking I was the only one to have one of these :-) Mine was also very cheap as it needs, repair, but I haven't gotten round to it yet. Looking forward to trying it though...
Cheers, Jon.

Nice linear-tracking turntable, guys. Is it hinged so the whole top panel on the L-70 opens?

I remember these. Nice tables. Unfortunately it was very difficult to sell these against the Technics products because Hitachi really did not have the brand recognition that Technics did.

You're not alone, I have 2. They are basically a less-expensive knockoff of an SL-10/15. The cabinet and lid are plastic rather than metal, but the table itself is still hefty and seems to be relatively inert. And just like the SL-10, it does play upside down.
