Hi Dolph,
I was "warned off" one of those - a Z6000, some months ago. This was from a current owner of one or two of them. The hassle was not their intrinsic excellence - just the complexity combined with the absolute absence of spares with no common/compatible/generic options.
I didn't know what to make of it - and haven't given it more thought till now. I have afeeling it was on Mr Bleu's list. I could find the discussion of you wish.
I was winding you up on another thread here!! Being Danish, do you have any leaning towards B+O 7000/9000?
Cheers - Marc

Hi Marc,
I worked at Teac for a number of years and I have never been so impressed with a unit as with the Z6000. The z7000 is nothing but a Z6000 with some computer addition added to it. I'll take one but prefer the 6000. I have adjusted them and own three. There are a few things to watch out for but in the overall they are great machines and very well built. I have not seen the need of spares except for what has been reported to me as the pitch control pot. Well if that is all that is wrong with it, I can work with that .
If someone is throwing one out I would like to be at the garbage can when it gets there. I have seen these go on E bay for better than $600 used. There are some that know what is going on or I would have more of them. I have a collection of many Teac decks as you could imagine.

Sam,
Sam, thanks for that. I must say I was somehow aware that I had missed something. The one that was up for grabs was "sound" (although 700km away from me. I could have made a plan - it was going for R2000 - (US$300). Thanks for clarity and glad to have a specialist on this list. I'll keep my ears open.
Cheers - Marc
General TEAC is a good buy. TEAC supports basically all their decks and keeps old parts. This is the best company in this regard out there. IMO Z-7000 and Z-6000 are the best looking cassette decks ever. And they play and record extremely well (I know I have them...).

Maybe I should try to purchase a Z-6000 when the option gets to me one day.
I love gear in my set-up that for real are competing about the #1 best product of the category.

Thanks for the heads-up Dolph!! Sam (Skywavebe) - is the Z-7000 computer processor element problematic? Or is it reliable/replaceable?
Many thanks-- Marc

The rarely seen totl TEAC, a Z-7000; looks complicated, I wonder how expensive the maintenance could be........
One of the details I like is the see through door, much Like a Nakamichi 1000 ZXL
