A friend of mine who teaches at our high school dropped by and gave me some of the gear he used in his class (I had sold to him) and some surplus equipment from the campus cable access channel.

I got back the Beta camera deck with linear 2 channel audio and then became the owner of two SUPER BETA decks.

I just got back home and will add pictures in a bit. Since he returned the Herbie Hancock tape with ROCKIT I will have source material and if I can find my L-750 blank I should be able to finally record on a WORKING deck (neither my Zenith nor my Sanyo work).

Nice. I still run an SL-HF900 and have a couple of spare machines set aside. Good job!

Nice looking unit.
I still wonder how the Beta lost to VHS.
The image quality was a lot better.
Never owned one myself but some friends did, they were happy with theirs.
I went with Laserdisc myself, still have it.

Want to see 300 crappy VHS tapes with 3 movies?

Free, leftovers from the local auction nights. I have some five year old's life in 1990 too! Birthday and a couple holidays.

We thought after SuperBeta, for sure Sony would do MasterBeta, but they did ED Beta instead. <rim shot>

Actually, the SL-2700 hit before the 2500. I only know this because my cousin and I were determined to be the first to sell one and literally hung out in the warehouse waiting for the shipment to hit.

Maybe I just don't remember correctly. I thought the 2500 and the 2700 were introduced at the same time, with the 2500 replacing the non-hifi series, and the 2700 replacing the SL-5000/5001. I distinctly remember waiting for the 2700 decks to come off of the airplane and get to the warehouse, and I thought they hit before the 2500 did. But you are probably correct, and I am probably fuzzy!

Hi Warped Bezel,

Your Sony Super Beta machines are keepers! I have a Sony SL-HF 750 and I would gladly show some clips from my Beta movie stash, but they'e all porn. The X-rated tapes came with the machine when I bought it. It looks like the tapes were dubbed from store-bought pre-recorded tapes in the usual "rent it then tape it" process. Way cheaper than Viagra once I turn 60.

I don't know why Sony hated porn.

(It was a lot better at that time and had SOME plot at least)

Bonody saw what was coming I spose...
