I'm quite suprised here. The prices of these 2 top-of-the-line tapes are very close. Yet today it appears Vertex sells on E-Bay for more? (I've seen buy-it-now prices pushing $70 but I don't know if anyone is actually paying it!) I guess it gets down to supply and demand? Less Vertex was made, so now it commands a higher price on the market?

Oh well...

I think your right. There were probably fewer Vertex made back then hence they command a higher price today. :)

"fewer Vertex made "

Could it be that Matt bought them all? :)

More than likely. ;)

Thanks for the list! It was nice to see two of my favorite all-time tapes, Sony UX-Pro & Sony HF-S. I could kick myself for not buying more of either of those; should have bought at least as many of them as I did the Maxell XL-II S. Oh well, at least I had some sense in buying as many XLII-S as I did.

What gets me is I wasted money on bricks of those inferior early-90's Scotch tapes instead of buying those Sony tapes. What was I thinking?

Naw. I would hardly say that my dozen or so stash of Vertex's hardly cornered the market! Though true. They were produced in pretty low numbers when compared to the other lines. ANother great scan. Thanks for sharing.

Re: those $70 Vertex's I see on "The Bay". I too am surprised that they aren't selling. I've seen Vertex's hit the $100 mark on numerous occasions. But the one you are referring to has been listed over and over several times. I have no idea. It could be the overall soft economy right now. Or the fact that this seller is shipping from Japan and just no one wants to take that chance for one tape. Or else the BIN takes the feeding frenzy factor out. Or all of the above.

ANother great scan.

Thanks :)

Unfortunately my scanner is automated and some of the pages scan as color photo's and some scan as Blk & White, while others scan as text, so that is why you see the color variations in the pages. I have tried but I cannot find a way with the software I have to manually set the document type.

Very neat. Just a few short years ago look how many options there were. Truly sad how it has declined to todays much poorer selection. Where's that time machine when ya need one, eh?

There was probably a pretty good selection of inexpensive great cassettes out there till ebay came along. :)

I know what you mean. If I had a time machine, I'd set it back to 1992-93 & go to Target, Musicland, Best, & Monty Wards to stock up! Those stores had pretty good selections of high-bias & metal cassettes from Sony, Maxell, TDK, BASF, etc... Looking back now, it was great! Who knew that the selection we had back then would be non-existant today? Talk about taking it for granted; we didn't know what we had! To think, 2 packs of Sony SR metal tapes for $8, 4 packs of Maxell XL-II S for $9. It makes me sad, so I try not to think about it too much.
