This one is more for Tom, I guess. 680ZX and ZX-7 have same pressure rollers, 8164G, but 660ZX is listed as 8164F. Is G just a later rev of F and interchangeable? I hate that Nak couldn't keep the rollers the same amongst the classic transports. Those are different from the 505 which is different from the Dragon. Yet the idler tires are the same.

They should be the same. If you look for the link on Naks.com you can download the Nakamichi factory pricelist from 1985. It is handy for determining substitute and cross references, and often has generic information in the part descriptions. The differences in suffixes may represent a change in supplier rather than a design change. With heads, it may be a grading value.

I went to naks.com but couldn't find the list You've mentioned... Where should I look?

It's under naks.com/wiki - Official Documents, at the bottom, and it's 271 pages long...from 1991, IIRC. Personally, I don't see how it can be used for a cross reference, unless the 1985 version that Nakdoc referred to was formatted differently. It's just lists of part numbers with descriptions that sometimes refer to the Nak model and part prices.

For all Nak part numbers, the last letters are ignored.
The price list in the wiki has many substitute part numbers and often has generic descriptions that prove usefull in tracking down parts. Search the .pdf using Acrobat's search function

From little I've seen, I'd say thay are mostly ignored. For instance, the DAO90XXB Nak cal tapes are Type IV, while the DAO90XXA are Type I. So, there is a difference in some.

Picky picky! Parts not test tapes then ;)
