Sometimes you get lucky. D-35 found at a yard sale. Needs adjustment as it will play standing on end but not laying flat. There is another piece that mounts on the back. I think it is a mounting plate—forget where I put it. All metal. Had a price tag of $1 on it (haven't got all the stickum off the face). Posting photos as I go through all my old ones.

Cool! I've never seen one quite like that, is it a Euro model?

No, U.S. model. First of the "Discman" line. MSRP was $400.

if you mean what i think you do, stuwster, then yes, i have a CU-AV200, a TOTL PIONEER remote that sold in 1989 for around $250. i got mine NIB for a far more reasonable $60, but it is currently available from WWW.REMOTES.COM for a rather outlandish $330.60...

Good looking unit.*check* I've had good luck getting the stickum off gear with your situation by spraying WD-40 onto a good paper towel (good meaning one that doesn't disintegrate easily) then working off the gunk.

GooGone works as well! I meant it kinda looks like the Pioneer remote, not just like it, the screen doo-hickey, I'm a child of the 70's, the only remotes we had, you had to plug them in with a cord !?!

but i thought this Sony D-50 (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Sony_Discman_D_50.jpg) was the first portable CD player?
It's shown here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discman) with the optional recharging dock
Or maybe this is the first Japanese portable? I find it hard to believe that the guy I bought it from (old professor) imported it and I'm pretty sure he's had it since it was new.

Nevermind, I just read the thread wrong. First of the "Discman" line, probably most certainly. They didn't call 'em Discmen back then.
