Now mind you I've been messing with audio equipment for awhile, so maybe if I really drew it out there MAY be a solution. BUT... I figured this would be a good brain teaser for all you audio nuts out there.
Here's the situation... say you have the following equipment...
1. A pre-amp and amp separate, but no headphone on the power amp.
2. An EQ. The EQ does have a tape loop available as well, but - when it is not engaged the output to the tape deck will include the equalizer effects (it won't when the tape loop on the EQ is engaged). This MAY be an advantage to the solution!
3. A tape deck.
4. A receiver you use as a tuner, and it sure sounds good for your headphones so that will be where the headphones stay.
5. Another "source" ... we'll call this one "the source". Not a phono... strictly regular "line level"
So here are the requirements for an ideal solution...
1. The EQ effects should be available to both the main pre/power amp and the receiver for headphone listening
2. The tape deck should not be subjected to the EQ's effects when recording(obvious right?.. soundwise each source should be on equal footing before any tone control/eq, even recordings should be neutral pretty much)
3. Tape deck, tuner in the receiver, and "The source" must be able to be routed to either pre/power amp or receiver for headphone listening, and both should have the eq available in the signal path.
4. Definitely a requirement here - no matter what, you cannot have this and that button pressed and create a feedback loop so severe it blows everything up and fries your 18 year old cat sitting on top of the amp...
SO.. let's put our thinking caps on... hmmmmmm....
(first one that figures it out gets 5 bananas.. yep, that's 5.. count'em right here)
