My local used-everything dealer has a load of these Sony CD-IT Type-II tapes in C-74 lengths for 5-for-$3.95. Does anyone have any experience with them? Useful, or useless to acquire? It's an oddball length, supposedly set up as perfect to record a CD to for auto or portable use before CD's really took over on boom boxes and car systems, but you still had the awkward issue of splitting the CD in half at some point evenly for both sides.
Any expereinces would be appreciated.

They're decent.....if you can use the length, the price is not bad......

I used of these to tape another online concert. The sound quality was great, and I went up to +4 on the meters without a problem.
Five for $3.95? I wish I could find them here in PA for that price!
Take Care,
Mike

I'm thinking at 37 minutes per side, they might be suitable for car mix tapes. Anybody have any sonic experience: are they brighter or duller than typical?

Hi Scorpion,
CD-it from Sony (often sold in a slip-sheath holder) was the Sony market match for TDK CDing. I got mine in London - at HMV. 2 packs of 6. I would place them (in some Sony context) as equivalent to Sony UX, but a brighter fresher sound to them than the most recent UX with a slightly more lightweight shell. But you won't experience any physical hassles with them. They are good cassettes - in fact, the CDing from TDK that I have are also 74 minute!!
Cheers - Marc

Don't they have that weird slip case instead of a jewel box?

Yup. Thin line case.

I have tons of the Sony CD-It 90 minutes tapes. These also have the slip style case. I bought them on closeout a year or two ago

Nah you don't need or want that many. I had to buy them all as part of the deal. *el_loco*
They really are an ok tape, I just hate the cases and the blue smoked color shells.

I could live with the shells, but for some reason I don't like the slide cases. Although I do admit the slide cases are far stronger then the conventional type cases. You could dorp the slide cases 1000 times and it wouldn't break, where as a conventional case you are lucky if it survives one fall. Yes!
Maybe they will grow on me.

Well, the price is right and the supply is good so I think I'll lay in a few more 5-packs for those days when that's all there is...

Good move Scorpion, winter is indeed coming. The winter of our cassette discontent.
