How do I use the simul-sync function on my Teac correctly?

when I engage the switches, all that seems to happen is an echo.....

I might have a project coming up with a friend where we will want to multitrack, and I assume that thre recorder can be used for this purpose...

Or, a second thought.....does the simul-sync work when recording, as a delay for the signal being recorded so that it goes on the tape in sync with everything else?

I honestly have NO idea.

can someone show me the light on this one?

Doesn't the simul sync enable the playback to come from the record head while recording, thus enabling precise control of recording rather than listening from the playback head which is always slightly behind when the heads are separated?

I think this feature is available on my Teac X-2000M although I won't be collecting the deck until Tuesday so not certain yet.
