I have a Teac 3340S. I am confused as to what record EQ and BIAS settings to use. The machine has a switch for EQ and one for BIAS with normal and high positions. How do I know what settings to use for the different types of tape I have.

First, list out what different tapes (brand and number series) you have for us. High bias is for higher-grade tapes and normal would be for "low noise" tapes, usually specified on the tape box. Do a search here as the many tape specs have been posted such as Ampex, Scotch, Maxell, and Quantegy (I believe).

Monitoring while recording... use your ears and select the one that sounds like the input signal.

The service manual for the machine says to use Scotch 203 for calibrating the HIGH BIAS and EQ settings and Scotch 150 for the low settings. I am using for example some 3M type 908 tape on 10" reels.
