My gawd what a fun movie to make and, I'll bet, be an actor/actress in! The wife and I went to see that tonight, and I've always been a big fan of ABBA music (and in fact, still listen to this day). I didn't know much about the romantic comedy/love story side of the movie before we went, but knew that most (turns out ALL) of the music was ABBA hits and they were woven into the storyline as almost a musical.
In short, the wife didn't stop laughing the entire time, the storyline was great, and the music and singing (performed by the actors with a ~little ABBA background) was superb.
Highly recommended.

Jim, ya keep on surprising me, ABBA?? Dude, you're an ol' softy ain't ya?
This movie is greating mixed reviews, Meryl Streep is a hoot and sings the crap out of all her stuff, Christine Baranski is always fun, they seem to have gotten physically ill having to hear Mr. Bronson struggle through his numbers, I'm going to see it! BTW, this movie is a must for all ABBA fans, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109045/ drop dead gorgeous movie, funny as all get-out.

i like ABBA as well, good stuff. i honestly i believe their songs to be the prototypes for a LOT of Anime music made in the proceeding 25 years...

Well, this movie defines "fun" in a movie. It had to be a hoot to make, and was a blast to watch.
An ol' softy? Hey, Waterloo was one of my first (but not the first) LP's I ever bought and I played the heck outta that album. Man, we used to listen to them on Casey Kasem's AT40 while we were painting the barn and such as kids. There are so many gems in ABBA's work, and they present the side oif disco that I could tolerate.
Go see it!
ps - Yea, ya cringe a bit when Pierce Brosnan sings, but he had so much fun it was fun to watch ....

We saw the movie and enjoyed it a lot but if you ever have the chance to see the broadway show live you will be even more elated. We have seen the road show twice and there is nothing quite like it; the audience is on their feet for the last ten minutes of the show and the balcony was vibrating from the stomping and clapping. It is the happiest show that I have seen in years. Long live ABBA!!!!

It was diffcult, but we mainly danced because of the huge carpenter bees that inhabited the rafters and didn't like the color scheme we had chosen for the barn. The bite from one of those would knock you off the ladder and leave a welt the size of a grapefruit.
But the music sho' did make the time go much more pleasantly ....

I'm sure you know they're not really bees they just play them on TV, they're beatles, hence they bite and don't have a stinger, that's stuwee's serious public service anouncement for tuesday Aug 12th *devil*
To stay on topic, not!

Am pretty sure these were bees. We used to knock them about with tennis rackets and power washers. They were like small F-16 fighter jets but stung like Mike Tyson (and not his carnal knowledge skills). Bees that bored into the wood and left $0.25-sized holes and tunnels.
PS - Stay on topic? We need a miscellaneous ramblings post-whore thread. Somebody make one.

I'll take the FF route and wait for the video. Nothing like watching the movie in the privacy of your own home and being able to stop it and rewind it.
I am not much for crowds either, some people in theaters deserved to be decked. *devil*

She'd love it as she likes to growl at strangers and or people who give her dumb looks, and we know there are plenty of those type of people in movie theaters. *Hi5*

If you like Abba music in movies, another film with the entire soundtrack of Abba hits was Muriel's Wedding (1994). Not a bad film either. Feel sad for her mom in that film though.

:-oo:-oo I used to take my 100lb Japanese Akita with me to yard sales, she's very well trained, I stop she sits on my right, I ask the seller "how much"? the seller reply's, I move my right pinky just so, she looks at the seller and growls real low. I always get my price *devil*
One lady (who happened to be a dog trainer) caught me out! she laughed her butt off and said just take it, ya'll are good *Hi5*

With the mixed reviews the movie Mamma Mia is getting.. i'm not sure I'll go to the theater and watch it.. I did see the stage show here last year and if it's as good or nearly as good as the stage production, then I may go see it.
Who doesn't love ABBA music? :-)<-
