Hi I am a new member. Recently I acquired a MX5050BQII with fair condition. It plays and winds Ok but won't stop the tape when going fast forward. I traced to a burned out Q15 transistor on the big main PCB. Does anyone out there who has information for this transistor? Any help would be appreciated.

can you post a picture of the transistor or is it burned beyond identification?

Hi ToddBailey,
Thank you for your response. I managed to take a picture of it hope you can see it. The transistor on the picture is a good one in front of Q15 that is burned, but they have the same marking. From the logo the transistor is made by Hitachi. In case the pic is not clear in the attachment the marking reads "C2324" with a number 5 on the lower left corner and "J4" on the lower right. Without knowing what is is I punched it C2324 on Mouser and Digitkey with no result.
Thank you.

That round logo is Hitachi's.

Given that Hitachi made it, I'd bet the part number is actually 2SC2324(K)..or one of the variants of it. Digikey & Mouser don't carry Hitachi goodies. You want MCM Electronics.
Looked it up, they show the part as discontinued, but with a Sanyo substitute for $1.59:
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/DISTRIBUTED-BY-MCM-2SC2324K-/2SC2324K
Before you order it & just solder it in there, you'll want to track down the datasheets for the Hitachi part and the Sanyo part & make sure the characteristics are within reason. If you're not sure because of all the trigonometry applied to electricity, find a local electronics shop with a nice tech to help you out.

Many thanks, Todd, for your help. I will talk to a local electronic shop before ordering. Will let you know what happens.
Best regards,

Just found circuit diagrams for it. Might be helpful to see what's actually happening:

about 1/2 way down the page.

Thanks for the links, Dreamsound.
I think I have enough information on the transistors to continue from here. Thanks, everyone.

2SC2324K transistor was right on the money for the Q15 transistor on MX5050BQII. A local store sold me a Philips ECG235 which is a cross reference for 2SC2324K. Installed it and now the transport works perfectly.
Thank you Dreamsound and others who responded to my message. What can I say. I am proud to be a member of TapeHead.

It should have read Philips ECG253. Not 235.
