Well, the 90 warranty was about up on my Onkyo TA-2090, so I called the guy about some problems I encountered. He seemed concerned that I had any problems with one of his refurbished units and told me to send it back for additional service. I was having trouble with F.FWD/Rev not fully engaging right away and making a grinding noise. I was also having trouble getting the Dolby Recording Calibration Controls to work. Hopefully he can get the bugs worked out because it was a pretty sweet deck.

Wish you the best, man. It's hard when a valued piece of gear goes south. A feeling of hopelessness at times ....

Well I hope that turns out well for you.

I never cared much for Onkyo. I once had a TA-2000 deck and was never very fond of it. Not even sure how I got saddled with it. But it followed me around for about a decade. I didn't like the independant L/R input knobs; I'm used to a master gain with L/R fine tuning. Or at least a two-in-one knob like most Teac and Akai R2R decks had.

The thing made crappy sounding recordings. And I HATED the loud clanky chassis that would emit a loud metallic "thud" everytime the play was stopped.

Finally, when I moved about 5 years ago, I simply abandoned it JUST to be rid of it.

I think it is a sweet deck. I tried to find one, and gave up and settled for the TA-2058, which is a pretty decent deck in its own right. Good luck on that deal

Man, I sent it back Wed. and I just called and the guy said he didn't have it yet. It was insured but I hope he gets it as it was a pretty nice sounding deck.

How did you send it?

I sent it USPS parcel post. It was going about 70 miles from Denver to Colorado Springs so I thought it would be there by now even though parcel post takes longer than priority mail.

Don't worry, the USPS can be incredibly slow.

Always do the delivery confiormation and tracking with the USPS. It doesn't cost much, and the peace of mind is incredible. At least watching it more gives you some sense of security.

I work for The United States Postal System. So yeah, I know how delivery times can vary.

I went down to my local Post Office and they tracked down the Onkyo using the insurance number. They claim a pick-up notice was left for the guy on the 11th. I called the guy snd he said he never received the notice but he'd go get it today.
