I bought this a few weeks back but it came with a destroyed/disintegrated belt. I posted here for some help and Matt gave me some pointers (thanks again). Well, I spent 3 hours today tearing her down, cleaning/lubing/installing the new belt and she's as good as new!! Another open reel deck saved! :D
Here is the thread from AK from a few years ago on how to do everything to get a Teac back up and running. Great reference and without it I would have NEVER attempted to fix it myself:

Here is the "new" Teac in action, sounds great:

Congratulations Joel on a job well done for 2 reasons:
Firstly in getting the deck running and sounding great.
Secondly for adding the link to the AK site posting which is excellent and may well be a big help when I get my X-2000M home soon and probably for the rest of the membership to refer to in the future.

Congrats! You will find the 1000 to be a very enjoyable deck and a lot of fun to use. Glad I was able to provide some useful info. It was very nice of the AK folks to create that info. Hey. I don't mind giving credit where credit is due.

For the positive feedback. The "AK surgery" took me about 3 hours following it step by step. Now that I know how to do it, I bet I could do it in half the time. A job like that would have easily cost me $300-$400 as the service center, so I'm quite happy saving some $. Without the AK post though, I would never even attempted to try it myself!
I like this Teac a lot. Some very useful features that my 2 Otari's do not have. I also now have a deck that is set to play 3 3/4 ips as my 2 Otari's are set at the 7.5 and 15 IPS speed. Changing the speed to be 3.75 and 7.5 instead means removing the side panel and going into the deck. :(

I have this deck as well and I had to do surgery on it for similar reasons. Initially, I thought the belt needed replacement, but it turned out that someone had overlubed the transport and all that oil found it's way on the belt and flywheels.
Once the deck is stripped and assembled again, it might need some adjustments on pinch roller pressure and back tension. That's an easy task as well - although it takes some progressive tuning. Post here if you find the tape loops under the heads or if it doesn't stop properly after FF/REW
