Can rusted and pitted heads be deoxited and cleaned to becoming useful again?

...provided the heads are not worn down?

The heads can be cleaned and polished, but if they have pits it's going to be the same as if they are scratched and will interrupt the flux density applied by the head to the tape and to it's ability to read the tapes field during playback.

Also, from a MODERATOR standpoint, can you slim down your signature a bit so it doesn't consume half a page with each post? Thanks.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to pass by that 64x then.

Sorry about that.

But ..... the heads can be replaced. There are still sources for them, or a parts deck.

ps - You didn't have to delete your sig, just cut down the size a bit. But "thanks" for taking care of that.

Yea, you can make your sig to be like mine - big list, but does not take a lot of space (at least I didn't have any problems with mods, so I guess it's OK). In my browser window it takes up 3 lines, if I maximize the window then the sig takes two lines).

Tandberg heads could be relapped. The 64 is fairly common though.
