Well, my 5th open reel deck arrived last Friday---had to share the excitement with the good folks here. It's a Technics 1506 in excellent condition. It was one heck of a deal compared to what these are going for now a days, so I couldn't pass it up. I think I'm now one of those people Matt was talking about---buying something because it was a good deal even if I didn't need it. Oh well. :o

Everything works 100%, and the heads are in immaculate shape. I just need to open it up and do some cleaning on the contacts/switches and what not. This machine does 2 and 4 track play/record, and runs at speeds 7.5 and 15 IPS.

Being a huge fan of the Technics 12xx series of turntables, I can see the apple didn't fall far from the tree with Technics open reel decks. Very nice sound and a well built machine.

Here are some pics. Thanks for reading!!

Very nice. Good catch!

Kinda makes me wonder if I wasn't an idiot for passing on an opportunity I had a couple years ago to buy one of those for $225.

I even had the chance to examine it prior to buying. But it looked pretty well used. So I decided against it.

Oh well.

Thanks Matt/Jay/Acoustic for the comments,

FYI Matt, I got a "Happy Birthday" greeting from you today (or, the site as it were), which is a really nice touch!! The only other 6 people to wish me a Happy Birthday today were:

My Parents
My Wife and 2 young ones
My Investment Broker

So I appreciate that! BTW, $225 was a steal if it was in "good" shape, but if it was too beat up then I agree, why bother? Parts and labor ain't cheap on the Technics stuff.

Now its time to get to business on my B-day:
