Well, I can't wait anymore to do "Frankenstein Moment #32", which will be doing the equivalent of making a rice-burner out of a Honda (Doing some "mods" on my old Onkyo Pre-amp), although the parts are coming soon..
so
Here's "Frankenstein Moment #31"... I love the warm tooby-like sound of my Sanyo Plus A35, but I also like the "oomph" of the Yamaha M-80 (hint - keep the stOOpid "Auto-Class A" switch OFF, and it lasts a LONG time *eyepop**devil*). Soo.. with 4 resistors, 6 inches of speaker wire, and a couple of solder-on RCA jacks.. walla - A35 "integrated amp" is now A35 "pre-amp"! And I get a place to plug the headphones in, too.. *headtunes*
Sounds freakin' GREAT... we'll see who's left standing between the A35 and the Onk when I get the parts for "#32"... *Hi5*
(I'd put some pics up, but they'd scare ya... bwah hah hah)

Sounds like you are having fun and that is the point of our hobby. Yup, don't touch the Class A button on the M-80.*flame*

Not much really to see. Basically it looks like an RCA jack on one end with a couple of 16 ga wires with tinned ends on the other end, wrapped in electrical tape (one 'o these days I'll get some heat shrink tubing for the "shop"). I made the wires as short as made sense to keep any hum out of it, and just hooked the interconnects to the RCA jacks on the other end.
I will tell you, today I had some Pat Travers on and the whole neighborhood heard it too. Clear as a bell, pushing around 190 or so.
Couple more days on the parts for the Onk to come in... I have heard some really great comments on these LM4562 chips. I did put a couple in that VSX-D1S I had awhile ago and I did notice a good improvement, but it also had a DSP in the middle of things so I really couldn't benefit fully.

Well, was able to do #32 tonight. Got in the "silver bullet" chips. For now I just replaced the main output IC. Had to make it fit tho - Not only was the original a SIP (4562's only come in cans, dips, and soic's), but it almost threw me for a loop when it had 9 pins! Then I looked closer, and basically pin 1 is a ghost pin.. not used at all..
So - Stood the new one up on it's four southern legs and soldered wires onto the top 4 to wrap around for pins 5-8. Did a quick op check with the scope.. lookin' good.
Plugged it up, and honestly.. I do think there's truth to the tale that you should let a new amp burn in a little before passing judgement. I wasn't too impressed for the first hour or so, but now... wow.... *headtunes**thumbsup*. Everything is so very VERY clear. The stuff I read where people start hearing "new stuff with old tunes" is no B.S.!
I'm tempted to do the same for the rest of them, RIAA preamp included, but I'm good for now. So, guess I'll see about putting the A35 downstairs, if "she-bear"'ll let me... *hypnot*
