This is just a few months of hitting goodwill, except for the Maxell XLIIs which came from walgreens. There are maybe a few of each cassette here shown. Most of them are the Maxell UR series 90s and 120s.

I found 5 of those weird Scotch Scream'r tapes at goodwill. The fluorescent green sticker says "Take one FREE with the purchase of any General Mills cereal" (then it lists brands of cereal) and at the bottom "Recommended only for children 8 years and older". They looked utterly bizarre so I had to have them all *devil*

Other than that, I'm sure it's a pretty mundane collection.

Always awesome to see a new version of a tape. The Scotch intrigue me, but if they gave them away with cereal, perhaps they sound like Rice Krispies.

You've got a few decent tapes there. I like the Fuji DR-I tapes. You can get very good deals on them online thru Total Media & tapes.com for about 57 cents each. If you like the TDK & Maxell tapes you have, you can get 10 packs for a pretty good price thru various online tape retailers as well.

Yep... and taping some good music on them will make 'em even better!*check*

it definitely WILL sound like rice krispies after recording a worn out LP... anyway, now that you have some General Mills/Purina tapes, it's time to go for the gold...

The intel bunny man even looks intrigued in your photo! I had one of those intel guys but lost it in a move once, but mine was pink.

As for worn out LPs, naa I won't be recording any of those, but I may be recording some nice ones. Also, since I have a lot of CDs, I like to tape them into compilations. It seems to warm them up a bit.

I love the sticky liquidy ever so slight reverb sound that tapes seem to have. It is hard to describe the sound, it just sounds like the aural equivalent to eating something really delicious when you are hungry. That food-gasm feeling, but with music.

Stop looking at me like that :o :D

Wow, I didnt know that Walgreens were in Wisconsin. Last time I went home to Rice Lake, Wisconsin, no one told me that they are there. Anyways, they are like "sam-wa-fare" they are everywhere here in Texas. Those maxell XLII's here are going for about 1.50ea.

Well I know of at least two here in janeyville. I found those at the one on Milton Ave. My partner found for me an unopened 8-pack of Maxell XL-II 100 tapes today at a garage sale for $2! I was so happy I celebrated by going to goodwill again LOL I ended up buying an unopened 3 pack of TDK D-60s.

It's weird now that I have gotten more into tape, I have been on the lookout for blanks. It's as if I see them and I must have them. They are getting frighteningly scarce though.

Now look here Graffias, you need help!! But were first and we need it too!!!!!!!!!!!! Really enjoyed your galloping hunt for magnetics. Good stuff, and they are indeed hard to find. By the way, that Sctoch BX is an unexpectedly good type one. I'll post you a quick review of it if you want. Is that Sansui receiver a valve unit?

Cheers - Marc

Hi Marc,

I can remember as a pretty young child (early to mid 80s) having some Weird Al music taped from the radio on a Scotch tape. The label was blue and white and looked like my mom's kitchen table cloth. Haha I totally remember that. Children are strange.

Anyway if you would like to post some specs that would be cool I always love reading that stuff.

That Sansui receiver is actually a $4 goodwill find. It has transistors, but sounds absolutely phenomenal. It is a lower end Sansui Stereo Receiver 331. I believe it is either 25 or 35 watts/channel.

Look what I just found today at Goodwill?

I looked everywhere (basically turned Goodwill upside down) but couldn't find the PXL camera. *fit* The tapes for it look suspiciously like Maxell ones from the 80s. They are type II CrO2. The other tape is an oldie that I remember from my childhood as well. Single tapes are $0.49 no matter what they are. Good, bad, blank, pre-recorded. If they are a multi pack they are anywhere from $0.99 to $2.99.

Damn it I want the camera that takes those tapes!

Hi Graffias -

That's what you get for perserverence!! Congats - pretty kid huh!! I was pretty appalling I think!! I can't get over that Sansui - the lightweight ones are great too - have no fear - just get a pair of period speakers if you can, high efficiency normally - early seventies I would say. It's hard getting them in nice shape - where a few hours of light sanding and polishing can yield amazing dividends.

Keep going!!

Marc

I think Fisher Price made that camera. All I remember is in the late 80's or so they came out with a video camera that used audio cassettes & I remember seeing commercials for it on TV. I was at a party back then & saw one; it belonged to the little brother/sister of the host. I don't think it worked. IIRC, I think it only shot video in B&W, but I could be wrong.
