HELP! Both VU meters on my Nak 582 are not working on playback, however they do work in test mode (ie) 400hz and 15khz, if more info is needed please e-mail, thanks so much, Chuck
Followup...Meters also work while recording and switching from tape to source, they just won't work on straight playback.
Also stop button light and play button light are out.
FYI...Guess I answered my own question with the last sentence, I changed to 2 bulbs in the stop button and the play button and the meters are now working, anyone know what the relationship is between the lights and the meter operation? Thanks

Wow... interesting... sounds like the bulbs in the buttons complete a circuit to engage the VU. I'll keep that in mind if my 582 VU's stop working. Good to know!
My 582 shows stronger signal on the left channel than the right, but I must have the record balance at the 11 o'clock position to get evenly balanced recordings. The recordings sound great, so my workaround is doing it for me for the time being... I'm hesitant to send the deck anywhere to have it tuned just yet under the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset.... but seriously considering it down the road. The more I use this deck, the more I like it. It can even make most low-end type I's sound quite respectable!

When the stop lamp fails, mute is activated...there was a simple mod to fix it, but it should have resulted in NO SOUND. I wonder if someone made up their own "repair" by modifying or removing the mute circuit. Does your deck pop when changing modes?

Thanks for your input, yes my 582 makes a pop almost everytime I go into fast forward.

Thanks for your input, yes I agree that the 582 is a excellent machine, I spent hours on the one I bought off Eb.., I installed a spare tape transport that I had gone thru with new belts, tire and lube, I replaced some of the orange caps that were preventing it from recording, changed 3 of the front panel lights, and the stop and play bulbs and now she plays and records like a dream, the sound is fantastic. If I can help in the future with your machine let me know, I have 2 skeletonized 582's I've been using for parts to repair the one I'm presently using, thanks, Chuck

That's a great offer, gettinclose, the kind of thing that helps make this such a great board. I don't have a 582, but it would help to know where you are located.

Thanks for the welcome, by the way, where do you go on this website to list the equipment that you are using, kind of confusing for me to find, thanks.

Actually, I don't know if there is any one correct place to list what you have and use. Anyone?

Under "User CP" at the top of the page, then select Signature.
That is how I listed my gear.... (that reminds me, I need to edit that)
