Does anyone here have one of these decks? I just finished testing the AKAI GX tape on this unit. :-)<-

Nope. Almost, but the guy sold it before I could "acquire" it. It's a deck I've wanted to try out.

I bought two and had them brought to factory spec for $200.00. (which included some spare parts) It's a very sweet sounding deck with TDK tape. And those meters are killer in the dark.

Howzit McMaster,
I have a TASCAM 112/1 in good shape. I wouldn't give it up ever. It's tough, very steady and sounds neutral and true. Mine is slightly over-biased so, without a tuning option (as you possibly have) it prefers a diet of sensitive type IIs - such as JVC AFII or the terrific Sanji CR-X from the late eighties.
Cheers - Marc

is there a test tone on that deck? Are those footers for isolation? How do they affect the sound?

There is an oscillator which produces a 400HZ and 10KHZ tone on the deck.
The footers were placed there so that it wouldn't scratch my NAK. Oh yeah, they make a tremendous improvement in the sound. But seriously I didn't notice anything.

I agree, it's a pain to bias nonstd tape, but if you stick to TDK it's a breeze. I like mine very much.
