Here are some pics of some Emtec/BASF CEII type II cassettes that I ordered. Oddly enough, I found them on Amazon. Some karoke store had 20 tapes left, so I bought them. Aside from Ebay, I'm not sure where you can find these tapes anymore.

Nice hoard. These are from the transition period from BASF to Emtec.

Never heard of this brand. Have you used them before?

Emtec is what became of BASF. According to their website, they still make a cassette, the Emtec Sound I. They call it a an audio "digital" cassette, but it's a type I cassette, available in 60 & 90 minute. Well, I don't know how "available" it is; I have yet to find a store anywhere online that sells it.

That's the truth NAD 613. Emtec were in Paris I think. A number of the BASF tapes had been made in France and not at Ludwigshafen in Germany even before the sell-off. I am very fond of them. The CS Super is a dual layer tape - extremely vital sounding.

Good purchase indeed.

I recorded a little bit on them last night & they are near the top of my list for cassettes, just below the Maxell XLII-S. They sounded very good & the tape mechanism was sturdier than I thought it would me. Reminds me of the TDK SM series as far as smoothness in the transport.

I noticed some of the tapes are different. Once it changed over to Emtec from BASF, the cassettes went to a clear shell.

I just figured it out; 5 of the tapes are CSII & 15 of them are CEII. The seller on Amazon said they were all CEII. Looks like I lucked into 5 pretty decent tapes.

Good find. They really are a good tape and seem a bit overlooked; very clear, reproduces the whole range fairly well and they seem particularly good in my 4track for some reason, comparable to the TDK SA/SM but with a bit more hiss to them. The two that I have in my collection are from the BASF era; thoroughly used and still in fine shape sonically, but a bit rattly during fast winds. I'll have to try one of them in my LX-5 and come back with how it is...
