You know what they say, "sometimes you're the windshied, and sometimes you're the bug." That sums up ebay most of the time. I've been the bug plenty of times. This Dragon, with serial number 20785 was listed as "Needs TLC, will not play at all, only FFs sometimes" not a REAL deal (like 83glts, CR-7A for $33), but under 4 bills shipped, better than most I've seen. Arrived, well packed and except for the common top front edge on the faceplate a little nicked, amazingly clean in the heads area, and the interior has never seen the light of day. Powers up fine, idler tire looks excellent, hit play, and immediately notice cam gear doesn't rotate, give it a push, snicks into play. plays perfectly, NAAC works perfectly. A few drops of lube, and a (so far) perfect example of a Dragon.
The windshield this time.

Hi Perry,
Your first recording on your new Dragon should be Mark Knopfler. That's more than a reasonable price to pay for it. So, are all your Nakamichis working well?

I was gonna suggest 'Fly on the Windscreen' ~ Depeche Mode, 12" remix if you have it, great low frequency energy.
Great score *check*

Or may I suggest "Fly On A Windshield" Genesis from the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. That is, just in case your not into the Mode... err not in the mood. :)
Great score... by the way!! *Hi5*

Thanks, all. Good choices, I have a lot (all?) of Dire Straits (which is what I was referring to), but none of his solo stuff (does he do that solo as well?)..it's on my list, no Depeche Mode for sure...Is the Genesis a Phil Collins live album..I may have that as I have a ton of Phil, but I don't remember that title. You all brought up a point..I haven't recorded anything on it yet, just playback. I also have to put it on the bench and check it's specs. Dragon number 2 still needs a NAAC cable, which I hopefully have a bead on. Once totally functional and up to spec (and satisfied it will stay that way) I'll sell #2. It's very low serial number (1417) makes it a bit harder to find parts and who needs 3? I need to make room for that CR7A or ZX9 that may fall into my lap. Both RX-505s work perfect as well. Hardest part as always is trying to use them all.

Have to agree. "You and Your Friend" off On Every Street has been go-to recording I use to put new machines/tape stock through its paces as it has it all from the uber low, to sparkling highs, and grunty guitar that will distort if bias is out of spec. Plus, the pacing and sustained notes allow you to hear any w&f issues.*reelspin*

I will third the Dire Straits.
Awesome score this third Dragon Perry - from what you say it sounds like it's in great shape!
