Found this on Craigs list for $20.00. Whoooooooooo this is going to be fun. A bunch of 8 track players and turntables, sounds like some are older ones. I'm not sure this guy is a tech or a hobbiest who just wants to get rid of stuff laying around, this will keep me hopping and happy all winter. I'll have to send my wife on a vacation just to sneek them into the house. LOL
AD: I am I have a lot of 11 stereo units which all work to some degree but have issues of one sort or another (this works, that doesnt' work, etc.). Selling the lot cheap for repair or parts.
Fisher 125 tuner/amp/record player
Pioneer RH-60 8-track recorder
2 sets of speakers
Marantz CD-150 CD PLayer
Zenith Allegro Sound System with 8 track & turntable (I could only get the radio to work)
JC Penney Tuner/Amp/ 8-Track/Cassette
Panasonic RE-8140 Tuner/Amp with 8 track player/recorder
Monteverdi Tuner/Amp with 8 track player
Superscope Quadraphase tuner/amp & record player (receiver sounds great!, record player not working
Vintage Olson Hi-Fi AM-372 Amplifier (looks unused but the phono input does not work)

Wasn't Superscope the cheaper end of Marantz?
Kinda' like Panasonic and Technics.
Looks like some interesting stuff.

Well, every good hifi nut HAS to have an 8-track player in their collection. At least one.
Where are you located, Larry?

Damn! You're gonna have a good ol' time, many gems in the lot. The Olson could be a super-score, hard to get info on them, (I'm going to assume you're in the southern hemisphere with your reference to winter and vaca's) Pics when you can please! Some of us might be able to help with the phono inputs and TT's, hell all of it! *Hi5*

Yea Scorpion 8,
Ya Gotta have at least one 8 Track and a few tapes, around 800. I have way too many and it keeps growing, still haven't ever found anything that would be a rare collectible. Home is Northern Indiana.
Stuwee,
I thought maybe some of them might actually be older ones *hope*, will find out when I pick them up end of next week. I will post some pictures of my new finds.

Isn't there a "Why No Love for 8-Track" thread around here somewhere the man can take over? :D

Well, I picked the whole lot of them up last night, it appears from the labels he put on each one, that more of them work than not. Which means open them up and do a good cleaning. Some really neat turntables / 8 track / cassette combos, some turntables only, speakers and that Olsen amp, if it never works it sure is in nice shape. Will post some pictures of them as I get a chance.

I had to learn about 8 tracks because of my wife.
I even bought a working player/recording unit for her use.
They are a unique format.
Good luck with your new toys.:-)<-

You are a lucky guy a wife that likes 8 tracks, I'm envious. If I kick off tomorrow, my better half will cremate me and the 8 tracks together. What kind of tapes does the wife like?

She listens mostly to pop.
Beatles,Stones and some country.
We have an understanding, she plays no country when I'm around and I do the same with speed metal.
It's worked out so far.*Hi5*

Took some pictures of my Craigs list score. Some really neat pieces. I have a lot of tear down to do to fix a few bells and whistles thats providing they can be fixed. Plugged in most of them and very happy with what I have got so far. Great sounds out of a few of them, iffy on others. I know I need a new Shure Stylus for one, already found it, now to scrounge the cash up for it. I will go into more detail later on as I get into them a little more. Still have a few I need to check out, will get to that this weekend. That Olson amp is a great looking piece for the age. Check out the Monteveri player, wonder why it didn't work, I got most of it out but there is still some wrapped around a bunch of wires that will not pull out. It had to be a complete tape from the looks of it.

Yeah!! The Olson is sweet, very 60's with the tex-strip on the front, I like all of them, what a great project *Hi5*
The pic of the Moneverdi spewing tape is priceless.

Decided to work on the worse one first, the Zenith only had the radio working. Took off the turn table and gave it a thourgh cleaning underneath, everything seemed to be all dried out. I used Q-tips with a little bit of PB Blaster on it to go all over anything that slides or moves up and down. I then clened off the blaster and then took vasiline and used where needed for smooth operation of the parts. Turned the whole works by hand for three or four minutes and could feel everything getting looser as I went.
Put in back in the player and powered up *hope* and away it went with a squeak here and there. Threw a record on and zooooom it went clear across the record in a second, forgot to *check* the needle. Put the tone arm up and it looked as if it had weld slag on it, couldn't even see the needle. Took the needle out and checked it closer, needle was there but was buried under this crud. Took some head cleaner and soaked the needle in it and you could see that crud melt away. Put needle back in, fired her up and out came the music. *yip* Had to do a few arm adjustments to get it too drop at right place and return when over. Next weekend the 8 track TAPE player, that is what the site is about, right. Any whooooo thanks for listening.

Well got to another one this week, its the Pioneer RH-60 8-track recorder. Records great and the sound quailty was good, but no volumne. I'm not sure there is a volumne control, there are just two knobs to control the recording meters. Possibly might have a blown amplifier. Did a good clean up, demag and capstan conditioning and that was pretty much it. Well anyhow, I thought I would try that Vintage Olsen amp to see if I could get some sound out of the unit. The guy I got all of this from said the amp didn't work on the phono in jack, so I ran it in to the tuner side of the unit. I ran my cables to the amp and then to JVC surround sound speakers, powered up the amp and amost blew the windows out of the room. After finding out the amp worked I also tried it on another known unit with blown amplifiers in the unit and with same results, window rattling music. The 8 tracks I played seemed to be a lot clearer ?? and sounded great ran through the amp. The Olsen is a keeper for sure, probably a little primitve compared to newer amps but I love it.
