Just as the question states. Do any of you have any pets?
Jenn (my wife) and I have two cats. We've had them both since they were born three years ago. Back then, we had sort of taken in and adopted a stray cat. We cleaned her up and gave her a home. As it turned out, she was very pregnant. She decided to have a litter of kittens under the bed. It turned out that there were five of them. We found homes for three of them plus the mother cat. And we kept the last two.
The first one is Turbo. So named because when he was a kitten, he was always zooming around at very high speed. He is a gray tabby. Jenn wanted to keep him because he was the 'runt' and so little and adorable.
Today, he is now a monster of a cat, about the size of a small bobcat. Take a look at him opening a door. That's a standard height bedroom door. And when standing on his hind paws, well...see for yourself.
Jenn used to sometimes get mad at me because she'd come home and certain doors and closets were open. I swore up and down that I wasn't leaving them open and that one of the cats must be doing it.
"Ya right. The CAT is doing it. Puh-leaze", was typically her reply. Well. It took awhile. But I caught Turbo in the act and showed her the picture. She no longer blames me for doors left mysteriously open.
He is definitely Jenns cat. Although I feed, groom, and clean up after them, every night, he cuddles up with her. He is very spunky, playful, and loves a belly rub. And chasing his sister. Only time he decides to get on me is every morning, around 4AM when he decides he wants to be fed. He jumps up on me and sits there. Sometimes, he'll stick his cold little wet nose right in my ear. If that doesn't work, he'll then sit there and try and pull the blankets back with his paws. After that, he'll come up and actually run his paw across my face (gently with no claws. He knows what he's doing) until I finally get up and feed him. I have not NEEDED an alarm clock in the last three years.
And the other [littermate] is Bean. So named because when SHE was a kitten, she tended to hop and bounce and jump a lot. Like a Mexican jumping bean. Hence, Bean.
She looks like a Main Coon (although both cats are just plain old mutt alley cats). She, on the other hand, is much more aloof and standoffish than her brother. She likes to be petted. But only when SHE wants to. On her terms, though she does often jump up and sit on my lap when I'm on the computer. Forget about picking her up and holding her. She wants no part of that. Her trademark is her tuft of fur on top of her head. Kind of looks like an antenna. She must use it to send and receive messages from the Alien Cat Planet. We think these cats might actually be plants from another world. Look at Beans eyes one time when we took her picture. It is not enhanced nor is it camera flash reflection (her eyes would've been shut).
Both cats are strictly indoor. Both were "fixed" at four months of age. And most importantly: I keep the room containing Des-Lab locked (and under both video surveillance as well as under lock and key) and out of reach for them.
