Mr. happy go lucky, stuwee, is actually, very methodical and structured when it comes to his tuneage *reelspin**reelspin*, I've been warming all the stuff in the Main Rig up, get all those eletrons flowing, some good coffee in me...used Fiji type IV water for the brew *eyepop*.
Had a little hickup on playback, didn't go into play at first, just like the first playback session, FF'd fine, then back into play (A-Ok), I'm playing one side all the way through first, no probs yet *hope* from 70 feet away (I'm across the house in the 'puter room) it sounds fantastic!! Every cable checked and double checked, LP's at the ready, *hope* I'm hoping macster see's this and gives a shout, berate me for waffleing and gives me Willy's contact info incase I need it, I lost the first link, sorry M *whipslap**bash*
This is my First time in years, very exciting, I know, as the Brits say "Get on with IT!"
kisses, Kraig

)dance(*yip**naughty* Good Show! I "sacrificed" a MA-XG90, one of the few I have that has music I still own on it, I'm glad I did as it told me a couple of things. I decided to use Dolby C because that's how the tape was recorded before (you know, to get a handle on the sound of the Nak vs SAE). Well, I wouldn't call it earth shattering, there is a very distinct lifting of veils, more true to the source, just better all around, knida sound.
I recorded Simon & Garfunkel's PSR&T, Scarborough Fair and Patterns, one of my acid tests *devil*. My young friends say "yeah it sounds really nice, my parents play that sometimes". My older hippy friends have been reduced to weeping and major goosebumps and shivers hearing this $3 used LP store find. One couple even took a slow dance spin in the LR, (it was one of the first albums they danced to when they meet in the 60's). Huge :D on their faces and a nice kiss at the end of side one. Now about the tape.
Is it live or TDK it's TDK, I'm very picky, I can hear a slight diff, it's pretty damn close though, the Marantz has such a killer phono stage, magical in fact, (it's original, never been gone through). I prefer the LP, the tape gave me the 'bumps, so I say )dance()dance(*Hi5* well done Nakamichi, I'm converted!! All this without messing with the bias control, yet.
Next up warming up some CD's.........*devil*

Very, very clean with 90%, the best I have at the moment. I've lost my de-mag, so has Dale, I guess I'll be in the market for one soon. Some really nasty CD's came out very nicely listenable. If the source has the band in the room, the tape does a close second best. Maybe it needs to have a go over by a good tech. there may be some shifting of spec, I know it's not a TOTL, I really love the sound*yikes*Big->)dance()dance( I guess I'm expecting too much, anyone who thinks of suggesting a $$$$ RtR get's it in the back *shoot* I really, really think it suits me and the system it's playin' in.

This is a decent bulk eraser. Should sell for around $15.
Hmmm... I don't know... I think you'll be chasing perfection for a long long time sticking only with cassettes. They are very very good. But R2R is awesome.... but I'm definitely not suggesting that format to get the ultimate tape experience... nope not going to do that. *liar*
