Yesterday, I received my order from B+B for the Akai cassettes. I ordered some of both grades-the SX Type I and the GX Type II. I was surprised that no packing list or receipt was enclosed, but whatever.

Inasmuch as I am already well stocked on tape, I didn't order a lot of them.

So this weekend sometime, I will try and conduct a full scale test of them and create and post a detailed review.

I think you'll like the SX type I tape; it sounds better than some type II tapes I've tried.

I've got some GX-90's coming via UPS today (50 of them). I'll post my opinions of them also... probably this Sunday.

Look forward to your guys reviews. I tried the SX tape on my Aiwa and found it sounded quite good, but that deck is out of spec- so I cannot call it definative.

I agree, it's my favorite type I cassette so far.

We eagerly anticipate your impressions Des-Lab.

Hi NAD and all,

NAD, I meant to comment on your post when you were having such a rewarding time last week I think with the SX. I will, look for it - I must find it first.

I picked up some Akai SX tapes a few years ago and recording a friends CD - Moody Blues - Live at Red Rock concert (great album by the way which took place in Colorado).

I returned the CD to him and he subsequently mentioned to me that he had inadvertently damaged it. I offered him a CD recording of it ( which I traced off the deck it was recorded on - a TASCAM 112 to a Philips CD-R765). He was knocked out - he said he really much preferred the one in gave to him over the original.

Ah well - that was an Akai SX. Neat type 1 indeed.

NAD, since you like good type ones, I'll give you a run down in the next couple of days of a most unusual tape I recorded on two days ago. A new - old stock Goldstar (before they rebranded to LG) CDI Pro. This tape was modelled on the super-ferrics like TDK AR, AR-X, Maxell XLI etc. In effect it sounds pretty identical to the "off the wall" That's CDI Suono. Handle it right, and it's sensational. More soon.

Cheers - Marc

Marc,

I'd be interested in knowing the tape model number of that Goldstar. Im really getting into very good type 1 tapes (Like AR, AR-X, XLI and XLI-S) and I'd be curious as to this other tape.

I think we'd all like to see that one.

I got mine yesterday also. I thought too that there was no paperwork at first but there was an plastic invoice envelope attached to the outside of my box.
