Hi: I have registered with Naktalk and have tried to post a few questions there, but my message title shows up, but with no text!. I added a few pics to describe what I was talking about and they came out (along with some goofy animations, that were not my doing, for which I was scolded for.) Anyways...how do I post a reply to a question there?.... do I e-mail the person directly? I have four posts, all the same there! Can someone explain how the site is supposed to work? Thanks, Huck

Sure, I've been a NakTalker for awhile. When you get their e-mail daily, just reply to it. Cut out the subject on your e-mail so instead of RE: Naktalk Digest, Vol 65, Issue 28 your make it something more specific like "RX-202 Porch Light Help". Then scroll down thru the body and delete almost all of the message body except either the one topic you are replying to, or just your new text.

Has always worked for me. If you continue to have problems, generate what you want to say and I'll post it for you. Subj:" Crazy TapeHeader LED Problems..." :D

It's not the most intuitive system, especially in this day of vBulletin-type forums. NakTalk is more like an old Compuserve User Group if anyone remembers back in those DOS-days .....

I registered my deck, but when I want to see mine in the database I have an error message (as I enter my email+serial no.). Anybody using this part of the naks.com site?

Me too !

To participate we have to go back in time and be prepared to be disciplined as schoolboys.

I believe that if the system can be tweaked to make it more user friendly, it will not only be most authoritative but will also be the most popular website for the cassette format.

Hope I will not be "b....l....d" for making soooo.. bold a comment when the website is a gratis service !

Cheers

I've registered (re-registered?) 3 Naks there and have never had a problem.

FYI, they have big plans for their system. We had offered an arrangement here to have a Naks section available in the vBulletin format for them but they declined because of their own strategic plans. But still we wait .....

Great to hear. I tried both IE and Firefox.
I thought I'd better ask here first before I write them an email.

Nak fans seem to be a strange breed, even by tapehead geek standards. Most of us analog nuts tend to live in our own little world. Nak junkies seem to have constructed their own enclave within that world. So I don't know. As Scorp said, we have repeatedly extended an offer to create an exclusive section to them within the TapeHeads community. And they have repeatedly declined. Oh well. Offer still stands.

Des and all,
NakTalk has a culture, for sure, and we have resigned ourselves to be old fashioned. Part of the reason is it is Wouter's list after all, but part is also that the list's crudeness limits the amout of time Wouter has to spend tweaking things. All the pictures and documents go into the Naks.com wiki page to create permanent and wide open access for all.
NakTalk has suffered from periodic personality-driven implosions. It was unmoderated for a few years but had to have help from mods. It may still be moderated. Tape Heads is much more interesting, but the specific focus within NakTalk makes it a great list if Naks are all you care about. Posting pictures and such won't work on NakTalk.
Several NakTalkers are here, so most questions will be answered in either forum. NakTalk does have access to a few more technicians, and is worldwide in scope (well, moreso than TH at present).

Des and all,
..... Tape Heads is much more interesting, ....... Posting pictures and such won't work on NakTalk.

"More interesting" is and understatement. It is a breeze to navigate with a clear and uncluttered layout.

"Posting pictures and such won't work on NakTalk."

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words ! Certainly a picture cuts down on a lot of time in describing and figuring out what one party is trying to say and the differet perception by recipients.

There are many examples of pictures being posted on Tapeheads and this facility is certainly a "boon" for forummers.

Whatever the prinary purpose of a website is usually to be freely and easily accesible to all.

I think I am saying too much as to be offensive which certainly is not my intention at all just thinking of the common good!*butt*

When I go into Naktalk some sentence if not many extend way to the extreme right.

How can I order it to be able to read in comfort with a reasonable area
instead of having to use mouse to move the bar to read to the right.

SOmebody out there help !!!*fit**fit**fit*
