Just bought one...are they any good? Kind of neat looking gold color. I havn't seen anything posted about that model. I know you guys all love the Dragon. I bought the BMX1 last week, and was asking a fellow "tape dawg" about doing the belts. He called this guy. I gave 150.00? It has a remote and the box and manual with it. Screwed? I hope not. I have bought a couple other decks lately, but mainly cause if I don't nobody will...

Kinda neat gold color? Yeah its called gold plating. If you paid $150.00 for it the decimal place should be two places to the right.

The last one sold for $7,000 plus. You stole, robbed, made a deal with the Devil, whatever.*devil* That has to be the score of the new decade!

It's the gold one, no doubt. I just went on a couple other sites and looked at this. I am contacting the seller this evening. I have no intention of "stealing" this from an uninformed seller. I will reserve further information until I have discussed this with the person I purchased it from. I think I will return it and explain the potential value far exceeds the asking price and recommend that I be allowed to place it on EbAy to the highest bidder for 10% or something. This deck is in was purchased in Overland Park, Ks about 2 hrs ago, so if you see it on ebay you will know it's the one. I have no qualms with a great deal ( I play with vintage cars all the time) but I have seen "wrong decesions" come back too many times.
Thanks for the informed update.

I called this guy at 11:30 at night, tell him this stuff about what you guys have said... he doesn't even get real excited. Tells me thanks, call him back in the morning and we'll discuss it...

Mark, you are a decent person. May TH-karma reward you many times over. Here is the previous sale:

Suggest you offer him the standard isoldit deal of 30%. You will both do very well.

Is it in your posession right now? If it is, he's in a sore needing of a attitude adjustment. Good on ya for offering what you did to him - I'm just surprised you got the reaction you did. (or maybe you woke 'im up... *scratchchin*).

I figured as much, but thought you might have a highly modified one with belts. *grin*

Good deal on the deck and your communications with the seller. Hopefully if works out well for both of you.

I have returned this pice to the rightful owner...as far as I see it. I honestly wouldn't mind being the bennefactor of a 100.00 screw up, but this is too big to ever be right. I have shown the man these threads and he has this site saved in his computer. he is a retired Standard Oil exec and acquired this while in the middle east years ago. I called him and walked him through looking at the last sale post. I do know he called his son in Tulsa, and the kid was astonished!
Guys, I am still numbed and stunned and confused. I know I did the right thing, but what would a rich man have done? Oh well. Back to phase 1, anybody have a chain conversion for a bx-1? Now, I have a cassette deck all torn apart, for about 12 houres I was the "owner" of one of the neatest tape decks ever made. I was afraid to hook it up...
Someday, I swear I'll win the lottery and it will come out that the number picker was deslixec ...

What makes the return even more amazing is that once money and goods change hands, the deal is done (unless there was something provisional about the deal that akaihead didn't mention to us). akaihead would have lost no standing with me had he decided to keep the unit.

Wow.
Limiteds are just that. Less than 250 exist. RAM bought one for $800, so not all of the sellers care anymore. The owner may have received the cassette deck as a gift....my advice is the same as others have suggested.

Offer to market it for a cut. We are not talking about greed here, but a plan to keep this deck in the hands of tape lovers and out of the eBay-flipping universe.
By selling the ZXL through credible TH members who can vouch for the performance, the deck will bring twice as much in auction, trust me. I will help in any way I can.

I have herd nothing from the person I bought it from. Not necessarily a decent thank you, I don't guess. Kind of shoked, broke my spirit kind of deal. I put everything on hold and stuffed the stereo stuff aside to kinda get over it. oh well. I have me a NEAT 4 track tape deck, free and clear and it's every bit as neat to fiddle with as thet gold thing would have been. There is the right thing, and everything else. I sleep good and enjoy being a relativly honest man. Except for that prostitute in DaNang...

An Englishmans view? What you have done is ethically correct, and one that the greater majority of people would have avoided so that they could profit from anothers ignorance. There is no point pretending that just about all of us would have had some grudging doubt about returning it, but for differing reasons; some to make a quick and easy killing, others may wish to keep it for the Holy Hi-Fi Grail that it is, but the issue here is what is right and wrong, and whether you will allow your conscience to guide you. You did, so feel good about the decision, based on that it wasnt rightfully yours to keep -and that is by your own estimation. That the chap hasnt acknowledged your decency is regretable, but its only a detail. What matters is that your behaviour in this matter is an example deserving applause, and most importantly, that you are an exceedingly honest and decent bloke. Well done. Regards. Mark. P.S. Im known for seldom being serious in my posts, but this is a genuine communication, -Im not taking the michael (ie piss )
