OK I bought this at Goodwill for a fiver and drats it will not play, first one ever that didn't work, bound to happen someday. Heres what it will do. You push the play button and all it will do is click click and the reel take spool on the right will turn for a few seconds and then stop. Does this on both decks. Picture posted points to the two parts that click all the time.

Does the capstan turn? In my experience, I always try a few things:
Cycle the mechanism. This is an auto-reverse deck, correct? Does it do it in both directions? Try switching back and forth quickly.
Push play, and then give the mode cam a slight nudge with your finger and see if it suddenly cycles into play mode or anything else.
Does it do this on both wells?
Give those a try.

Pushed play and rolled cams and notta thing.
Does it in both wells yes
Have not replaced the belts Retrokeeper, Marrs has them might order after first of the year.
Will probably put back together and tinker with later.
Anyone have a manual to scan Operation.

HiFi Engine has a few Pioneer dual-well deck manuals, but not this specific one.
Both sides.... odd. Did you check fuses? All connections?
One more thing to try is to rotate one of the auto-reverse heads until it latches in the opposite direction, and then power it up. Sometimes the deck logic gets "confused".

I am not sure I would want to replace the belts on a $5 deck. *scratchchin*
If you like to tinker or want practice replacing them or if you have a use for the deck maybe, but you will probably end up with $20 in belts on a $5 deck. *scratchchin*
The last on on ebay went for not much.

I see what you meam, I don't think its belts anyways as I replaced them with some used ones that fit much better, others were streached out real bad. It didn't make a bit of difference. Like Scorp says its like its mixed up and doesn't know what to do. I may just put it in the closet and my wife can sell it in a yard sale when I'm gone. lol Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Tinker around with it and if you get it working correctly great, if not recoup your $ from the yard sale. I often buy $5 or $10 audio items at the thrift to play around with for he weekend. If they work correctly or I get them working I usually re-donate them or give them to those who will use them.

One of the great deals about dual well decks on-the-cheap is if you decide to (say) dissassemble one transport to learn how the gears and cams and solenoids all work together you have an instant reference guide of the untouched transport in the other well. A few ultra-cheeeep thrift store dualie decks have sacrificed themselves on the altar of my workbench in the "pursuit of enlightenment". Plus, there's lots of small parts, springs, pinch rollers, tiny teflon washers and such that can be salvaged for that parts bin on your workbench.
