Hi Everybody,
My Name is Graham from Tasmania, Australia (Any other Aussies here?). I am just returning to the Tape format after years living with LP's (nice) and CD (sucks). My knowledge is fairly basic concerning tape so I hope joining this group will help me get up to speed. I have an old Yamaha K-340 an older Pioneer CTF-1250 and I have just purchased a Aiwa XK-S9000U on Fleabay. I reckon the Aiwa should be the last deck I will need to buy. What are members thoughts on this? I will be also asking about recommendations for a R2R in the near future.
Cheers
Graham

A hearty handshake to you! (Although admittedly I've only been here one day myself; I feel like the stewardess welcoming you to a town that I've just landed in, in the same descending-to-the-airport plane that you're in...)

These guys will make you feel very welcome. This is a good place to be.

Yep, spooky feeling that one. Where were we landing? Ha Ha. Thanks for your warm welcome.
After spending the afternoon checking the site out,I think I am safe in saying that I am looking foward to being a part of this group. It's nice to find some like minded people (analouge lovers). I have lurked on a couple of other audio groups for a while now but am tired of the endless ammount of tossers with their all digital front ends (that can't possibly have a clue what good sound is)(D###ital I can't belive there is no referance to it on this site) these guys are giving me the shits. Don't get me wrong CD's are ok (if you remaster them, burn them on a Yamaha CDR1 burner and have 10 beers before you listen. Ha Ha. Cd's are ok for the majority of the population, besides leaves more of cast off good stuff for the people that actually care about sound quality.
Guys supportive replies required/expected.
Three cheers for for the multinationals that gave us digital fucking everything and precious little else.
Cheers
Graham

FYI, this deck is legendary for it's warm, analog-like acoustic character. it might just change your mind about CD, even!!

2nded, Graham Welcome, CD's have their place, my CD stand has a thick layer of dust on all the cases, embarassingly so I'm not showing a pic. I bought my Shure V15 IV with probably the last NOS HE stylus on Earth from Austrailia last year! I'm not afraid of using it up either, I play LP's and tapes everyday *Hi5* some stuff isn't availiable on LP soo....I do play some every so often, on a cheapie but, nice sounding Panasonic changer, Ghastly...eh?

Welcome to TapeHeads, I think you'll find some other antipodeans in the Members List.
Now, if you could snag a few Sheilas for us and introduce them the testosterone levels around here would drop to acceptable levels.

Your Aiwa is a very well regarded deck in this and other forums, good to see the Nakamichi hegemony abating(I use a CR-7A and DR-10 but am encouraged that others take a differing path to audio nirvana) - no answers only solutions.

Gi Lady Ayeka, I see you have Pioneer Princess in your title. Digital does get on my tits but that does not mean I don't partake. There is too much good music that is hard to get any other way. BTW my CD player is a Pioneer European PD77 (Us Elite PD75) modded with clock and output fiddled with. I have over a 1000 cd's all remastered and reburnt using my not so secret recipe (see previous post or ask for details). Thats it no more digital

Hi stuwee, Mainly play LP's getting back into tape to cover LP's I don't have CD's of (attempt to preserve some good LP's) . I'm sure most agree that having to have 50 different formats sucks and only benefits those that have already been paid three times over for the same bloody thing (excepting the poor artist that gets sweet F_ _k all compared to the marketing machines).
Thanks for your welcome We must compare notes re Thorens some time I have an old modded TD150 junk yard bargin that I use every now and then
Cheers Gamve
