I got this at GW for $4.99 It's in nice condition and records and palys great nice crisp. It's probably in the lower realm of the line but it sure seems like a nice deck. Any body know anything about this deck and where it sits in the quality realm?

Of all the manufacturers HK probably adhered to the good-better-best Sears plan of tape deck numbering. Series that began with 1's or 2's (as in HK-2xx) we the bottom range, 3's were the better range, and 4's were the "best" range. That being said, some folks really like the HK sound and it is a little different than many other decks, not so technical but warmer. If you like it, then enjoy it (plain and simple!).

Almost all of the HK OM's and SM's are available free online.

I kind assumed that from reading other posts but I guess a good HK is better than other "better" units I've seen Thanks
